Default used corvette and mileage?

looking at a targa 99 vette with high mileage, 114000. it has the stock c5 non chrome wheels but the z51 suspension package. the interior looks good except the wear on the seats. i figure i can buy new covers off of ebay. the rest of the car atleast in the pics looks good. they are asking 17.9k for it and am wondering how many miles most of you all have on your cars? i know that i will want to change the heads and cam like i did on my camaro but can i really get many more miles out of this motor? thanks.

I think 17.9k is a little too pricy for 114k miles? I have an 01 in decent condition, roommate backed into my front and did bout 1700 worth of damage and I took to car dealership to get an estimate on trade in for a truck...(something a little more practical for college - according to mom) but they were offering 18k trade in...2001 black with tan interior, original wheels, and 60k miles.

(I just went up to "satisfy" her, im keeping my vette, psh)

My 2003 had 28K miles on it when I traded it for the C6. C6 has about 1800 miles on it so far. I agree, that is high mileage for a Vette especially if you're going to mod it without updating or refreshing the internals. Make sure there are detailed records for oil changes and regularly scheduled service. The drivetrain may also be getting tired and is in need of some refreshment. When I was younger, I had the worst luck with high-mileage used vehicles. Even my previous '98 Chevy truck only had 44K miles on it when I bought it, but within 20K miles I lost the transmission. My current truck has 52K miles on it, and I cringe everytime it shifts a little harder than normal. High mileage trucks are one thing, but high mileage performance cars I personally would avoid.

I'd haggle with them on that price. I traded my '99 coupe with 30k on the clock in on a C6 and got 20k for it last november.

well what would be a good price figuring the fact that i will upgrade the motor/tranny later. what other things should i be watching out for? it is a two owner car. carfax came back clean with regular service reports. i will want to either do a forged motor later or one of the 402 strockers. so if i can get some more miles out of that motor i will until a problem happens then upgrade. i was going to try and get it down around 16k?

I picked up FRC for 18K with 100K on the clock. A little on the highside but well work it.

I bought my 2003 used with ~20K miles. Carfax and everything was clean, but after a few months of owning the car it became very apparent that it was not well cared for. It doesn't have to have high mileage for it to have been abused. This is more likely to occur with a performance car than any other car. But, to each his own, I guess.
