Default Z51 vs Z06

Me and my stepdad had an arguement today at dinner. He told me that his Z51 will perform exactly the same as a Z06 in the corners. He said the only real difference is the engine. My question is is the Z51 suspension the same suspension as in the Z06?

Different valved shocks...different sway bars and less weight, not to mention different wheels/tires...

Good luck arguing with the "old man"

so basically the z51 suspension does not handle as well as the Z06 suspension?

ok... now he wants to see track times for a C6 with Z51 versus a C6 Z06. I know theres some out there, but if anyone has any could you please post them up? Thanks

LOL! Comparing a C6 Z51 to a C6 Z06 and he says his Z51 is the same? Well, let's see. Z06 has 105 additional horses, less weight (carbon fiber body panels), better brakes, better suspension, improved aerodynamics (air dam, spoiler), larger tires, etc. There is a reason they're comparing it to Vipers, Ferraris, and Porches. Ask your dad if he thinks his C6 Z51 can hang with a 2007 Viper coupe. Now if he drops in a Procharger, some 6 piston/4 piston front/rear brakes, and lowers the car a bit he might have a chance.

Sounds like "dad" needs to do a little more research.

oh of course it wouldnt hang power wise, but hes talkign about purely suspension and chassis-wise.

It wouldn't hang suspension and chassis wise, either. Chassis is not the same. More weight reduction. Suspension is a little different on the Z06 also (as mentioned above). It is not the same car. It's the same base. They are both C6 Vettes, but that's where the comparison stops performance wise. C5 Z06 and C5 Z51 Coupe had much fewer differences (brakes are the same, body panels are the same, etc.). But in the C6 category, it's a different story.

He should be comparing the C6 Z51 to the C5 Z06, not the C6 Z06. He will do fine against a C5 Z06 (with the C5Z being just slightly faster as track proven). Trying to compare to a C6 Z06 is just silly.

But don't bother trying to argue with him. Parents are always right.

The Z06 would walk a Z51 in reverse...
N-ring lap times:
C6 Z06: 7:42
C6 Z51 7:59

C&D lightning lap:
C6 Z06: 301.1
C6 Z51: 309.2

N-Ring times don't fully compare handling alone, since there are straights where the HP difference will shine. Skidpad numbers would better compare handling potential.

Also, the C6 Z06 has wider tires.

The C6 Z51 is a closer match to the C5 Z06, for which it was intended. This package was meant to fill the performance gap in 2005 for C5Z owners who wanted a C6, but didn't want the price tag of the C6Z.

Dude, the C6 Z06 is superior to the C6 Z51 in every way (except fit and finish), including suspension and chassis. Tell dad to get over it already. He doesn't have a Z06.

If we are talking C5's here the only difference would be a smaller front sway bar by a few mm.
