Default Shift rod

The question I have for you guys is has anyone ever bent their shift rod that connects the trans to the shifter? I will have mine out later today with the clutch and trans swap and after seeing the picture in the manual I hope I am not changing the trans for no reason.... Although I am upgradeing to a tricked out m12. The existing trans seeming ly works fine it just doesn't like 2,4, &6 gears under hard driving.

I had difficulty getting my car into gear under hard acceleration for a while and then I took it to the dealer and they replaced my shift linkage. The shifts got silky smoothe after they replaced it.

Just wanted to mention that my car had it's tranny replaced about 3000 miles after I bought it because of abuse by a previous owner. I assume the shift linkage got bent when the tranny was replaced.

good luck

Well after working 10 hrs today I went to work on the ol'FRC. Today I got the headers off the rear cradle, the diff, trans, and torque tube. Gee lots of fun! I felt bad for asking a friend to use his shop with the lift, but after this no regrets. I got new seals, a DTE brace, LS7 clutch with new hyd. obviously, and a T56 Rebuilds M12 with hardened main shaft and such. So I'm thinking the car might feel a little different when done. Originally (all original parts) the car never quite shifted right and the previous owner (a friend) always had a hard time under spirited conditions I think I just magnafied the situation and want to fix it right. Now that I can see the linkage I am going to order a new one because I can't tell if the old one is bent but I am not doing this again. If it is bent I will try to take some pictures and show you guys.

Just to update anyone that was curious. The car has been back together for a little while now and since we have had all this rain in N IL the roads have been fairly clean so I've gotten about 250 miles on her since reassembly. All I can say is wow! With the updated hyd.(drill mod), LS7 clutch, M12 (T56 Rebuilds did great work!), and the Hurst shifter this is how the car should have come stock.

I ended up not replacing the shift rod even though the u-joint was a little loose. The rod even with its strange looking bends wasn't bent. Those of you who told me before that I probably didn't bend it you were right!...... but I can see how some higher mileage c5s could have shifting issues with a sloppy rod and I wouldn't want to tear everything appart for only that. So make sure you guys check that when you have your cars in pieces.

Well that's good news. Would've sucked bad to put it all back together and have the same problem.

Is this car heavily modified?

No, the car isn't heavily modded. SDPC cnc'd LS6 heads, LS6 intake, 405 hp LS6 cam, TPIS long tubes, and a Borla single muffler exhaust. I've got the itch to change the cam though, but I just want to keep it a nice driver. My camaro is for the sick stuff....
