alright here is the deal, i have been thinking about getting rid of my Z28 for a low mileage C5 z06 and i have been looking around at a couple different places. I came across a car i went to look at located at a corvette only car lot, and i was talking with the guy about what i was looking for. He mentioned that i should stay away from the 2004 model year z06 because there was a switch made with the computer system or something to that effect that made them difficult to tune the 04 model year properly. I have searched around on a couple different places and i havnt found any information that confirms what he was saying. I just wanted to ask you guys since its important that i get my facts straight before i were to make a purchase.
The only problem with the 04' (and late 03's) is the FFS fuel system. This has the fuel pressure regulator and fuel filter inside the tank.
This only becomes a problem if you are going to run big horsepower such as forced induction.
There are fuel systems available that will support 1000rwhp so it really isn't a problem that can't be fixed.
no problems I have heard of or found in researching the 02-04 Z06's. That salesman is a total idiot. Now that I reread your post he really is a idiot. He pretty much was telling not to buy this car from him, WTF. They want you to buy cars not try to push you away from them. I say go back and buy it from a different salesman. LOL
Thanks for all your help and responses. FYI there wasn't actually a car there I was planning to purchase. I had seen on autotrader an 04 black z06 listed there. I drove out to look at it, but it must have been an old listing. When I got there he said he didn't have that car there. It was during general conversation of what I was looking for that he mentioned the "problems" with the 04.

This is why I thought maybe it could be true, I had never encountered a sales person talking you out of a car ?! and it was a small lot that only sold corvettes, so you would think that a person working there would know more about the car....go figure
