Default C6 suspension questions

What is the main difference between the C6 suspension packages available. As far as I know, the choices are the following:
1. Base suspension
2. Magnetic control
3. Z51

Is the base suspension package not good? If the owner planned on doing a moderate amount of upgrades, would it be essential to go with a stronger suspension? Can someone please shed some light for me on the main differences between these three. (note that this would not be for someone who's interested in course racing)

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks

The base suspension is very good, but caters to a softer/smoother ride. Realize that the target Corvette consumer is probably a 50 yr old male. The F55 magnetic gives you an adjustable **** to switch between smooth and performance. It changes the shocks' properties with magnetic fluid inside them. The Z51 is the high performance handling package. It rides the roughest, but it really isn't that "rough" at all. The Z51 also has tranny fluid cooler, power steering cooler, etc... included, along with a more aggressive 1st gear ratio in the 6-spd manual.

A lot of people go with base suspension and Z51 sways. The lateral spring rate is higher on the Z51 accounting for a lot of the rougher ride Tony mentions (plus larger diameter shocks). On the street, the Z51 springs seem to give a little more bump steer feedback, which went away with my Bilstein Sport shocks. The other thing in the Z51 package, in addition to what Tony mentions above is larger, drilled rotors.

I'm with Tony, the Z51 doesn't ride that rough to me, especially for a sports car or as compared to the base suspension. A C5Z rides rougher (fyi, the C6Z51 and C5Z shocks are the same). Another note, the F55 (magnetic ride) shocks cost about $1000/each, if that makes any difference.

All good choices. It's just that for the $1600 or so they charge for the Z51 package, you get a lot of good stuff!

Tony, sound about right to you?

You also get the stickier tires with the Z51 pkg. BTW Not a rough ridin' car at all, even lowered. Worth the money just for the rotors & steeper gearing.

Thanks guys. I'm planning another vette purchase in the next couple of months, and have never really looked that much into the C6's since I'd always planned on purchasing another C5Z06 (which I loved). I'm still trying to decide, as both have their pros and cons. Right now, just doing some research on the C6's so that I'll have as much info as possible when the time comes for the purchase.

GRRRR...such a dilema...C6 Vs. C5Z06

THanks again for the input, good info!
