Well, you can tell nothing when the hood is closed, and I never open mine. If the hood is open, you can see the exposed filter, and the ties, but if you get black ones, they will sort of blend in with the rest of the plastics. I also cut vents in my plastic surrounding the foglights.

Ah Im always going on and off the military bases so my hood gets opened everyday and inspected so I try to keep everything looking good all the time. Just wondering because it sounds easy to deal with.

I AM OFF TOPIC

WTF military base do you live at?

This is the SECOND nuclear research construction and research facility I have lived on. That and the base before this one had a full-bird that was caught selling satellite codes, etc. etc. etc. for 15 years. Ended up being that the base had a huge problem with people "accidently" taking home TS documents on a nearly daily basis and them landing in the hands of our "allies" the South Koreans.

I was only pulled over 5 times since 2001 and they only looked under the hood 3 times. Usually they just use bomb/drug sniffer dogs because it is next to impossible to actually find a well hidden... well anything via eye inspection.

Well in Kuwait and Iraq it is 100% vehicle inspection, they mirror, swab, and xray (if you have a lot of stuff with you). And anytime your going from economy onto the base you gotta get checked. Tight security I know. I think its like that in the states or it might still be random inspections.

Did you notice any gain on the butt-o-meter? I'm considering doing this one myself.

I never brought my car to Iraq only I was telling how tight the security is in Kuwait and Iraq. Remember Kuwait is the staging country for Iraq operations. Nothing to worry about in Kuwait one of the lowest crime rates in the world.

I am LMAO about that I couldn't imagine bringing my baby there. I already lost a Yukon and had to repair a xpress van from that place I would never subject my baby to that kind of punishment I might as well be wearing hunter's orange and paint a bullseye on my car. I don't have a death wish man.

Okay then, you mentioned keeping under the hood clean clean, inspections, and all then Iraq and Kuwait and **** and I was just...

...hell I don't know what to think.

Either you would have a VERY stupid commander, or you WERE a very stupid commander.

Besides I just couldn't imagine how damn many times you would have to change out your air filter.

It would suck even worse if you had a Vararam... well for all two days until an insurgent bombed the **** outa ya.

Filter stays pretty clean as long as I keep it out of the desert area. No insurgents here unless you count the Skyline and Evo guys LOL.

One of my old high school friends (going on 3rd tour in Iraq), a Marine now, spent 99% of his time repairing his Humvee. The vehicle was pratically disintergrating under the conditions yet had to be used constantly.

He almost **** a brick when he saw the bullshit of Airmen driving around in pristine Humvee's that never saw the **** he went through daily.

I laughed my *** off and told him he should have joined the Air Force with me, they take much better care of us. (plus we get better funding )

I was in the army in Iraq and went through the same thing with my Humvee it depends on what area you are in. Keep in mind Iraq roads are not the best and a lot of the time the roads aren't even paved. In Kuwait though the roads are decent and were I live there is no desert so I don't have too much of a problem I give mine a cleaning every two to four weeks.

Where my bud was in Irag there were no roads. Absolute desolate wasteland from what he told me. Definately in need of off-road tires. A playground that the Humvee was made for.
