Default 02 Vette Cruise Control

My father in law has a 02 convertible and just took it out of storage for the summer. His cruise hasn't worked since.

Anything we can look at without going to the shop?

Turn the key "on" without starting the engine..

Press "reset" to clear the door ajar or whatever message is on the display

With the screen clear press "options" once and let go.

Immediatley hold down "options" again and at the same time press "fuel" -4- times as you have the "options" button depressed.

That will go into diagnostics mode, press options twice and then once each time as you cycle through the various computers and systems. Press the button above options to cycle back down through the systems.....

You'll notice some areas may have 2-3 perhaps 5 codes (even though your check engine light isn't on)

When you find an area with codes press "fuel" to have it tell you the code (U1063 for example- write them down) then hold "reset" for a couple seconds until it clears.

Clear all codes and drive the car. After 50 miles of driving using (or trying to use) all the normal car options, recheck the codes to see which ones come back.

Look up the codes in the PCM section of this site (or google search) and you just might have your answer. ~Joshua

Is the car stick? If so, there is a switch on top of the clutch that senses when you press the clutch in. If the clutch doesnt hit this, the cruise wont work. I had that problem and if you pull the clutch pedal up with your foot, the cruise should engage, if thats your problem. Also, the brake pedal has a switch for the cruise as well on stick or auto cars. If you press the brake, the cruise disengages. You can try pulling up the brake pedal as well.

Very good solution!

I'm now willing to bet that it's in his pedal assembly..

Please report back after trying this remedy.
