Most people are saying "night and day, you need to drive one."
We're not saying "dude, dude, buy one!" ... we're saying drive one.

DON'T just buy one without driving one first. All you need to do is find one on autotrader at a local or semi local dealership and go for a test drive.

You're coming from a cammed TA, the power difference isn't going to be as astonishing to you as to someone coming from lightly modded. Anybody can explain the differences they noticed as compared to THEIR fbody, only you can noticed the differences as compared to yours.

True true, but no one will let you test drive one unless you're ready to put some money down NOW. Or at least the dealerships I've spoken with. And I don't know anyone personally that has a stock or farely stock Z that I could ride along with. Really, that's all I wouldn't mind having is just a ride along.
Because, yes, I know what power feels like when on the gas, but I really just want to see how one rides over bumps and the atmosphere in the cockpit while driving, that's all.

Either way I'll still get one.......

Great write up. I was in a pretty bad accident but im just looking forward to getting this car, I sold my z28 the day before my accident and I was going to go test drive some z06's in the next few days, but thats being put on hold due to all this. That write up gives me alot to look foward too thanks.
No problem. I hope you're cruising around in your new Z06 as soon as is possible!

This is true. The above comments are from my personal experience, comming from a slightly modded SS. I'm sure others opinions will differ.

Either way I'll still get one.......
You won't be disappointed.

Thanks! Right now, I'm gearing up for all the minor asthetic and bolt-on stuff:

I'm waiting on my new head unit (Alpine IDA-X001) to arrive, it should be here today or tomorrow. That will give me the ability to use my ipod again (I hate fm transmitters), so that's up first. I'm also going to order a C6Z06 shifter and ****, and probably do the anti-venom mod to the tranny.

DTE brace is on the list of things to get as well.

After that, it will be some minor asthetics:

- Lower portion of rear facia painted black (ala C6Z06)
- Tint
- Screen Kit
- Smoked Clear Corners
- Shorty Antenna
- Corvette Fill-ins

At some point during all that, I'll add a vararam and pulley as well.

That should keep me busy for a month or two.

Then it's time for some 18" CCWs and a drop. I'm not sure how I'm going to drop the car yet--either lower it on the factory bolts with a set of Bilsteins, or go with coilovers. I really don't want to jeopardize the performance by just slamming it on the stock bolts, as I've heard this causes some pretty scary issues with mid-turn bumps at high speeds, as the suspension doesn't have enough travel.

Beyond that--who knows. I may go STS TT, or maybe just heads and cam.

Congrats only real car guys know the virtues of silver C5's...ok ok I am biased!

And I agree about the driveability I drove a Shelby GT to a Mustang show last weekend and I am amazed at how much better my lowered, huge wheel, low profile tired C5 rides!

Congrats. The interior is a bit nicer than the F-Body, the door panels and seats are nicer for sure.

I would say however, having owned a 98SS M6, a stock 98 Formy, the 00 Z/28 Pinks Car, and now my 02 Z06, my 02 Z06 has the stiffest ride quality.

I think the 01-04 Z06 cars are the best car you can get for <$50K, super low 12's stock, looks, handling, and supposedly it will do 170mph.

just to let you know, that when you do a pulley change you have to remove, at least unbolt the steering rack to get the pulley on and off the motor. hardly worth the time to get a few hp out of the car but if you want to, go right ahead.

once you lower it you will have to get it aligned. I lowered mine on stock bolts and it was pulling to the right. Also depending on what you intend to do with the car, drag racing, autox or just driving around you can have to car setup for what you want. The cars from the factory come with negative camber, -2 degrees great for autox, but after alot of miles the tires will begin to wear on the inside. Great for autox but not good for normal street driving and drag racing. I had mine put to 0 degrees. My stock front and rear tires were already starting to wear on the inside. You can see when after doing a burnout. the inside part of the tire was black and the outside of the tire was lightly grey. The car hooks alot better after putting on a set of nittos and doing the camber and aligning it. The stock F1's are crap for these cars, too much power. get a set of nittos or mt's along with that dte brace for sure.

Thanks, John! I agree that the Z06 has a firm ride quality. I should clarify that when speaking of luxury performance, I was more refering to the timid manners of the car in regards to acceleration. Ride quality is excellent on smooth roads, but on harsh roads, it can be bumpy and stiff. This is to be expected with a car capable of 1g lateral acceleration, though.

I was unaware of that, thanks for the info. I will probably skip the pulley.

I'm setting the car up for general street use and road course action. 305 Nitto R-compounds will be going on the CCWs out back, 285s up front.
