What do you dislike about the C5 thread
 

I wanted to start a thread and get thoughts from owners of LS1 LS2 C5 owners and there dislikes with the Corvette.

I recently wanted to drop in a 351 motor in my 96 GT. Then got to thinking, hell why not just buy a C5 Corvette. But then I hate it only being a two seater.

So their is my gripe the first one.
Its only a two seater and I have a wife and daughter.

Please keep this about the Corvette, and no I'm not gonna buy a queer 4 seater GTO.

i just hate how when you see a Vette you automatically think:

automatic.

you should not be lugging more than one pasenger in a sports car anyway.

my complaint is that i cant find a nearly stock z06 to race.

Corvettes are for women. Exceptions include FRCs, Z06s, and 6-spd. :D

Lets face it, its not a Viper (which are all Manua.) But yea I get that feeling half the time YOU know its an auto.

only complaints is that NOBODY wants to race ya and everybody assumes my dad bought it. The fact that i'm 23 has alot to do with that. The only thing I dislike about any Vette, not just C5, is th fct that it is only a two seater. That's about it.

In a couple of years that's not going to be problem for me anymore, though.

There are also a bunch of automatic f-bodys and mustangs. Saying a Corvette is a girl car because it is an automatic is an ignorant remark. Tell that to all the guys and girls on here with huge stalls in their autos they have a girl car. The Corvette is a two seater for a reason, it is a sports car. It is not a sedan, if you want to carry more than one passenger or a lot of cargo then a corvette is not your ticket. I can tell you I drove f-bods from the time I was 16 to 22, I just recently got my C5Z and have absolutely no problems with it. I do not miss the back seats at all. Just go test drive a few vettes and find out if they are for you.

hmm well I own one of each, although the corvette is an older c3 style. for what its worth, ive driven a new vette too. with either vette, the pluses are:

It handles like a corvette
It sounds like a corvette
It looks like a corvette
everyone else notices its a corvette
the steering is lighter, and it will go/handle/corner wherever you point it. completely different car than an F-body. lighter weight, lower center of gravity, front and rear independent suspension make everything accelerate, stop, and turn better. it truly is a textbook difference between a pony car and a sports car. if you would enjoy taking a go kart around a track, you would appreciate the vette.


the minuses are:

it looks like a corvette
everyone else can tell its a corvette
the cops know its a corvette
you gotta treat it like a corvette
I personally dont leave mine anywhere that i cant see it. parts are more expensive. people will make all kinds of assumptions based on the car, way more so than being an f-body owner. you cant really be as comfortable with it as you would a pony car. i can take my camaro anywhere, and actually make it a useful vehicle. the vette is a giant, expensive man-toy. Get your mind out of the gutter.



in the end, the corvette is a joy to drive but much less practical. you cant carry three people. however, my rear seats are so dinky in the camaro I rarely do that anyway, and when I have the vette out to play im either by myself or with a group where there are plenty of open seats. with the vette, you will ultimately make some sacrifices for the joysit provides.

the camaro is less precise than the vette, but more pratical. you can do more with it. kinda like a club instead of the precision scalpel. but the club is fun to swing. :twak:

I hate that the rear ends are weak and we don't have much of an upgrade for them!

For the most part I love my C5 I went for the slow GTO to the C5 and love it. only problem is the corvette tax everytime I got to upgrade they tag an extra 100 just for being a vette. the parts for it are expensive but the just like any other high end car. I have the coupe and its loud inside when its windy out and sometimes it likes to let some water in. I wouldn't want it for a daily driver that just my own opion thats what my trucks for. but for the most part those are my only complaints

Well my vette been pretty good. Heard alot of scary stories about the electrical wiring throwing codes and giving problems. Im not a big fan of of the lights that pop up nor the wagon wheels that came with the earlier models, but thats ok. You might find alot of places charging the corvette tax, but you can always go to the next shop. Last bad part of owning a corvette is the stereotypes from people who dont own corvettes. A few people are quick to make bad comments of people driving the corvettes when they dont even know the person. Its a part of life i guess. Take one for a drive and see if you like it. They are not for everyone. I plan on selling mine and getting a low mileaged Z06.

The fastest vette's are automatics, can't outshift a computer. :D

Worse thing about a vette is the cost of go fast parts and the time it takes to get parts. Been working on my project for about (3 yrs) now.

Stripped it down, converting from a coupe to a frc with body kit, upgraded the suspension, drive line, brakes, interior, etc.

About the only things that are original are the doors, rocker panels, frame, some of the interior and glass, everything else has been upgraded or changed.

It's up at ACP getting the body kit and FRC conversion w/ repaint.

I still love C5s and almost bought a used one instead of my C6.
The only things I might dislike about it are the length (it's over 5 inches longer than a C6 but that of course was NOT a factor until the shorter C6 was introduced LOL) and the power level of the stock base/LS1 cars (C5 Z06s, being both more potent and a little little lighter, kicked total ass).
I think C5s are among the greatest used performance car values on the planet right now. :nod:
And of course I absolutely LOVE my C6 so I will never tell anyone that there is a downside to owning a Corvette LOL.

I don' like the inerior quality. It's got alot of plastic, but then what GM car doesn't?

I fixed mine up with some Vette Essentials stuff though and it's a bit better.

I agree about the Corvette tax on mods!

As far as the automatics for old Guys, I run up against a C6 Z06 and he did pretty good.....................until he missed third! :D

He would've lost anyway! :nod:
