Default Gassing in 2nd gear!

Years ago, before overpowering my car with turbos I bought short sticky tires 25.3 dia..

Anyway, I know c5Z06s with only modest mods can be a real challenge to get going. My car now gets 67mph (the new ZR1 gets 64 in first) with the above tires at end of 2nd so I tried pulling out in second, which is like being stopped on a steep hill.

96mph in third
138mph in fourth

It seemed to work O.K. has anyone tried anything like this?

I'm changing all the gear ratios on my next tranny rebuild.... that should help.

Are you referring to starting off in 2nd gear?

Yes, starting off in 2nd! New ZR1 gets 64mph in 1st, my car gets 67mph in second. 2500 or so rpm and slipping in the clutch. I not sure what might come of my Spec 3 clutch from it but my 0-60 time should like it. I'm thinking as long as the clutch is planted before the turbos kick in it shouldn't be to bad things.

Why don't you just short shift into 2nd if you're worried about blowing off the tires? I found out on accident that I can start in 3rd if I want...of course it bogs a little bit.

Yes. Nothing wrong with doing that...it will give you better et if you are overpowering your tires with too low of gearing...many cars waste 1st gear and short shifting wastes time...so if you do not mind slipping clutch it makes senses...slipping clutch is a lot like a high stall converter. Chuck

Thanks Chuck! Yeah, and it won't be all the time only when lessor cars with more traction come along.
