Default 2001 Z06

Hey guys. i dont know if this is the right place to post this,

But i'am in the market for a c5z06. right now i have a 2001 z28 with about 50k on it. i owe about 9 grand. i can find a dealer to give me 10 on trade.

the corvette i found is a 2001 z06 18k miles Yellow with black interior. for 25k. do you guys think its a good deal? or should i wait it out over the spring and try to get a 02/03/04 model?

is there really a big difference in the 01/02 z06s? will i be happy with it?

and also do you guys think the car will still be worth in the 20k range in about 2 years?

let me know guys thanks.

A few differences in the 2001 vs 2002 Z06:

In 2001, the car did not have Heads/Up display. Cam profile is different. 2001 Z06's sometimes had oil consupmtion problem.

The car's value is based on condition. So, if you keep it nice, you should be fine.

The C5 Z is an awesome car.

I think you can easily find an 02+ car with decent mileage in that price range. My wife had a 2003 and personally with the relatively similar prices I don't see any reason to buy a 2001. I'm sure I'll get flamed by the '01 boys....but frankly, I don't think anyone can argue the benefits of the 02+ cars. If you can swing an 03 get it because the 02 vehicles had issues with the aluminum shifter plates and were switched to steel for 2003 if my memory serves me correct. I've been out of the Z06 game for a while.

If you're going to change out the cam and exhaust, then it doesn't make a difference if you get the '01, as those (plus the HUD if you like that, it became a standard option at some point) were the major differences that gave the '02+ models a 20HP bump.

If that's the case, $25K for a Z06 w/ only 18,000 miles? What are you waiting for???

Well if you happen to come across any i would appreciate the info..

Anyway the dealer with the yellow z06 is an *** hole. so thats out of the question. plus the HUD kind of matters to me. i thought all z06s came with that. guess not

I'll keep my eyes out but honestly I've sort of gotten out of the Z06 scene so I'm not actively looking. I would suggest you head over to corvetteforum.com and check out the C5 Z06 & for sale section. Lots of good deals to be had by fellow enthusiasts. I would go that route if I were you. This is a good time to buy also, so don't wait until summer if you can.

The bad thing is i have a trade in, so i cant buy from a private owner unless i sell my camaro. and i still owe about 9k on it. i'am trying to buy one before spring cause i know the prices will sky rocket again. thanks for the info guys

Does anybody honestly think that i can get an 03 04 for around the same price 24 27k range with around 15 25k miles? i seen the prices are still high, theres an 04 with 14k and the dealer wants 35 for it. so thats why i figured i can only get an 01 in my range,

Just for reference, we sold our MINT MY '03 with 22,000 miles on it in Feb. of 2007 for $32k with a brand new set of F1 SC tires (almost 2 grand) and a transferrable warranty good to 72,000 miles......but I think I practically gave it away. That was a year ago, so I've got to figure the prices have dropped a decent amount, I don't see why you shouldn't be able to find one in the high 20s. You may have to drive somewhere to find one though.

Also, you'd be better off selling your car outright anyway. You're always going to get more of a return, rather than trading it in at the dealer.

Yeah but i dont have the patience to sell it outright, and people in ohio want cars that look like 000000 miles for 1000 you know. lol so if anybody in the ohio area is interest in a 2001 NBM z28 50k miles AUTO. real nice shape. all stock except for magnaflow catback. chrome wheels leather t tops. pretty much loaded give me a pm and i'll get you all some pictures,

i'am asking $12,000 OBO.

Get that '01 with only 18k miles.... how much less do you really expect to find a car with those miles that used to cost $50k when new?

Forget the wimpy '02+ cam... get a better aftermarket one anyway.
And if you get headers, you'll have then eliminated the 4 cats compared to the 2 on the '02+ cars. (that's roughly what makes up the 20hp difference)

HUD is a nice little toy, but kinda pointless after the first month of "gee whiz" wears off...

Put simply, that '01 was a $50,000 car and if you can get it with only 18k miles for only $25k and they'll take you're Camaro on trade.... DO IT!!!!

Yeah i understand its a good deal. but that dealer is only giving me 6k for the camaro when a dealer here in town has offered me 10,500 on trade. so i will be about 3500k upside down so over all i'll be paying 28 29 k for the vette.

Believe it or not he's giving you good trade in for your Camaro... look at Kelly Blue Book and be prepared to cry when you see reality.

The other dealer says he's giving more, but in reality, he's got more profit in the car he's selling you to offset the cost.... He'll still book in your Camaro for 7k even though you "think" he gave you 10...

One month of driving that Zo6 and you'll wish you'd done it much sooner! You'll never go back.

I sold a my Twin Turbo Firehawk and now I LOVE my '01 Zo6 much more.

And getting trade in from a dealer? No.

Good luck finding a car with ultra low miles being dumped for that price in the 1st place

Doubtful, however I bought my '02 with 26,750 miles last month for just under $27K. There's nothing wrong with the '02 Z's...you should include them in your search.

The 02's+ also went to hollow stem intake and exhaust valves too

Notice I said, "that's roughly what makes up the horsepower difference?

What do hollow valves have to do with horsepower?

Since we're in the nitpicking mood, here's the balance of the changes:

1. The LS6 engine standard in the Z06 increased from 385 to 405 horsepower. Torque increased from 385 to 400 lb-ft.
2. Front fender badges for Z06 models included the 405 HP designation.
3. LS6 exhaust back pressure was reduced by 16%
4. Cam shaft was redesigned resulting in increased lift and a 5% increase in air flow
5. Valve spring material composition was changed to increase seat load by 14%.
6. LS6 intake and exhaust valves were a new, lighter design.
7. The valve train weight was reduced by 0.81 pounds, which improved valve seating at high rpm.
8.Airflow over the LS6 MAF sensor was increased by removing grid work
9. MAF software was re calibrated
10. LS6 air cleaner housing had a larger intake
11. Wheels looked the same BUT they were cast spun instead of forged for a weight savings of 1.3 pounds per car
12. rear shock valving was changed
13. Improved clutch
14. Thicker front anti-sway bar
15. New front brake pads
16. HUD was standard (HUD was not avaliable in 2001 cars)
17. 2004 introduced a new fuel system which carries over into the new C6.

I don't know what kind of messed up bank you use but 10% is freakin' ridiculous. Even a $23K 7% loan which is still high IMO over 5 years is only $455/month. FWIW my loan on the Z06 is 5.5% which I just got last month for a 5-yr period.
