Picking up a 02 Z06 tomorrow
Hello Guys,
I'm going to pick up a 02 Z06 with 20,000 miles on it tomorrow.
Can anyone give me some tips on what I might look for.
I plan on obviously driving it. Turning the key to on and making sure all dash lights work along with testing everything electrical.
I also want to have them put it on a lift and let me look at the bottom.
Anything else I might do within reason at a dealership?
It looks brand new.
Thanks in advance.

Make sure they know how to put it on a lift, many dealerships do not have the right type of lifts to lift them up without damaging the rockers. Look closely at the underside of the rockers they may already be damaged.
Check the seals on the transaxle for leaks and look at the clutch fluid, clutch fluid gets darker with use especially hard use.
The LS6 valave train is noisier than most and will make some noise at idle, it does not indicate a problem.

Take out the battery and check the main harness for acid damage going to the pcm. When/if the battery leaks acid onto this area, it will cause all kinds of electrical gremlins.

Take it through its gears! I'm not sure if you know what a shift fork is but if your gears feel hard to get into then have them work on the tranny! When I bought my 03 last year it shifted fine until I got on it and 2nd gear was discharged. I couldn't tell at low speeds?

i agree about the shifting in them. If it has a short shifter they are a little more tricky to get all the way in gear and these cars can be bitchy to get used to at WOT. I'd also look how clean fluids are as well. Although it's a Z06 so you can't expect the clutch fluid not to be a LITTLE black. idk ONE person who hasn't done a WOT a few times and that's all it takes to blacken the stuff up. I just changed mine for the first time during my heads/cam install and haven't gone above 4k RPM's yet and it's already turning black. i may try and rebleed it again as maybe i didn't get all the black crap out. Just check over real good and make sure all things work good, check the HVAC face and make sure it all lights up. They are notorious for not working right, especially on the dual climate. ~Cole~

Smell the fluids for a burnt smell
check the rear axle seals for leaks
check to see if the seats rock
look for battery acid damage (some OE batteries leaked)
check to see if the HVAC lights are dim
have them run a VIS and service history (if it's a GM dealership)
check to see if the tires are OE (the shelf life is short, even though the miles are low)
you can use the DIC to read stored DTCs, see CorvetteForum for technique
check rocker panels for damage
inspect serpentine belt and tensioner
look for non-stock parts
drive it hard-ish to check trans function

Just buy an extended warranty and take her home, don't look back, and drive it like ya stole it! If that's the car I wanted, that's what I'd do. Best of luck with your purchase!

Thanks for all the info everyone. I had them put it on the lift. Car was spotless. Only 20,000 miles.
Fulids looks great, shifts perfectly. Have no intention on looking back at the F-body. I love this car.
Thats the plan!
Here is a pic
