Default C6 diff fluid change step by step w/pics

My car is an 06 C6 A6. I could not find a step by step for this and decided to make one myself. We all love pictures right????

I thought a few of you may try this yourself since it is the easiest change I have done so far. Chevy qouted me $299 to change the fluid FYI.

We could make this a tech sticky and I will be doing the A6 trans fluid next weekend the same way.

I bought Royal Purple 75x90 (2 qts) from Pep Boys. $9.99 each.
1- cheap pump Pep Boys $7.99
1- 10 mm Allen head socket

Im using Royal Purple since I have had great history with it and it does contain the friction modifier already.

Jack the car up making it as safe and level as possible. My driveway slopes up so it looks way off but it isnt.

Locate the fill plug between the 2 mufflers over to the right a little. Make sure you can get it loose or this is all in vain, that sucker is on t i g h t!

Now locate the drain plug just under the diff.

I had to use a breaker bar with a small extension to reach both plugs since it is very tight under there.

Drain the fluid in an oil change container since there is very little and then replace the drain plug. Now remove the fill plug if it is still in and take the cheap pump and put it in a 1 gallon water jug but make sure the jug is DRY inside. Fill with both quarts of Royal Purple and slide the hose into the diff and pump away. This pump worked much better than expected. I will be keeping it for sure.

Thats it, you are ready to go.

Very easy and did I mention I love this car? It really does need about 200 more horsepower though.

did you have to put in an additive? i got the fluid from GM and had to wait because they got a new kind. Then there is a limited slip additive as well. Just curious. GM told you $299 to do that, is that WITH the fluids? I got fluids for like $50 and they said they'd do it for another $50. That's rediculous though at $300. Great writeup though

Thanks.
Royal Purple 75x90 contains the additive in there already. I was told $299 with fluids but I only called to see how much I was saving doing it myself, I had no intentions of actually letting the dealer touch my car. I pity guys who have paid that much and didnt realize how EASY this is, so thats why I did this post.

yeah sometimes i do that as well figure out what they'd charge and then do it myself like this winter i may be doing my own clutch install save my *** $2g's. Also from the looks of it it will be the same writeup to use for the C5 Vette's as well

I also use a wood block so that the cradle and/or diff connecting bolts do not get nicked or damaged.

I used the exact spots it shows in my owners manual. The rear jackstand and the jack were under them, the front stand was under an even thicker part.
