Arrow First Bracket Race

o so i went to my local 1/8th mile track, Sumerduck, this past sat, and entered into my first bracket race. I was pretty excited, and i guess for my first time i did really well heres the results:

Practice runs:

rt......................765.....................84 1
60.....................2.019..................2.01 2
330...................5.663..................5.665
1/8th................8.635...................8.637

First Round I got a BYE sweet!!

dial................8.61
rt..................771
60.................2.013
330...............5.660
1/8th.............8.629

Second Round

..................me..........................othe r
dial.............8.61.......................6.27
rt...............578........................489(re dlight)
60..............2.019.....................1.354
330............5.664.....................4.005
1/8th..........8.614.....................6.264(ran out)
..................WIN

Third Round

...............me...............................ot her
dial..........8.59.............................6.6 0
rt.............436(redlight)................519
60............2.015...........................1.44 9
330..........5.656...........................4.236
1/8th........8.607...........................6.612
.................................................. ..WIN

So overall for my first time out i thought i did really well. Mods in sig, i;ve got 255 sumitomo hrzs lowered psi to about 24. car still spins into second. But she is still VERY consistent now if only the driver could get that tree . I dunno i'm kinda struggling on that, if i leave on green i'm obviously leaving late, but if i try to leave on the third yellow, i redlight?? If i leave as soon as i actually see the yellow light, shouldn't i be fine?? What i try to do is just focus only on the third yellow, and push the gas as soon as i actually see the third yellow. i don't try to anticipate it. with the processing time should i be ok??

Nice job for your first time. If you want to continue running brackets, I'd suggest some sticky tires to keep traction consistent.

On the reaction time question, I usually run my Formula about 900-1000 rpm on the stage rpm and leave when I see the 3rd amber. This is good for .040 lights or better depending on how jumpy I am As mentioned, if you anticipate the 3rd amber I'm .020-.040 red and if I miss the 3rd amber and late, I'm .080-.120.

Keep it up, and have fun!

Derek

Stop anticipating the light. Thats why you redlight. Never ever wait to see green before you punch it...

Watch the third amber, try to zone out the other two lights. Soon as that sucker lights up, punch it. Should get you in the .050 on up range. If you have to cut a monster light, you can try anticipating it, but you risk going red. I usually go for broke... Which causes me to redlight a bit.

Lights the other night...
.495
.507
.533
.600
.607

I waited for the third amber on the last two lights... Reaction was off for some reason...
