Default First trip

I went to the local track today (1/8th mile). First run was my best run

Reaction-.5232
60ft----- 2.07
330ft---- 5.71
1/8th---- 8.69
MPH----- 82.74

i could not get my 60ft down at all, best 60ft was a 2.06, every run after the first was either 8.8-8.7 all mph's were 81-82. I was hoping for some better times, there was another 98 T/A out there with just headers from what they said and it was running 8.2-8.15 with MT ET streets. I have new BFG KDW 2's on the back, first run had about 38psi after a couple runs i dropped it to 25psi and it didn't change anything, my buddy said i wasn't spinning at all but the car just seemed very weak off the line. I was launching with rpms between 2-3k, first run was at most a 2k launch.

anyone have any input to get times down, besides better tires and such? Once i receive my income tax check i will be putting a circle D 3200 stall in it, all current mods are in my signature.

thats kind of what i was thinking since that other 98 ta with just headers was running 8.20's. What if the car did still have the stock 2.73's and not the 3.73's, would the time and mph seem about right then? I'm just going from what the guy i bought the car from told me about it. I bought it in January and just finally got it running right a couple weeks ago. Maybe the mail order tune that is has is holding it back? I was thinking about getting one of the HP tuners but i don't really know anything about them and how much tunability you have with them.

You might have 273 's .Can you do close to a 100mph in 2nd ? Then you probably have 273's . My A4 w/273's would go through the traps in 2nd or just going into 3rd . Your times are similar to my stock/cat-back times w/273s . 2.04 60ft - 8.80 @82mph 1/8 - 13.4 @105mph 1/4 . Are you running a stock stall ?? Looks like you might need a higher stall .( Just saw you were getting one soon ) Knock .3-.4 tenths of your 60 ft and youll knock off .6 - .8 tenths in the 1/4. Congrats on the new ride too !

My car was just shifting out of 2nd probably 10ft before the traps right at about 6k rpms. I'll jack up the back of the car and check to see if they are actually 2.73's later. If so then i guess i will get some 3.73's and that circle D stall here soon and hopefully drop the time to low 8's maybe high 7's?

What cam do you have? You might need to get a wideband tune for the cam.

honestly i don't know... The guy i bought the car from said that it has a "mild comp cam" but could not tell me any specs on the cam. I honestly don't think that it has an aftermarket cam, definatly doesn't sound like it has a cam. When i bought the car all he could tell me was that it has headers, manual cutout, slp lid, k&n filter, msd wires, egr a/c and cats were removed but the egr and cats were not tuned out, and the mild comp cam with 1.6 roller rockers. He did fail to tell me it had been wrecked and a few other things.

I bought the car in Rockwall Tx, the guy i bought it from told me that the guy he bought it from had swapped the motor with another 98 LS1 from LKQ, added the cam and roller rockers and the other bolt ons. I asked for the other guys number but of course he didn't have it.

Is there any way to look up what the year and everything is on a motor? will the motor have a vin number or anything on it that i can check out?

It's in the 1/8th.

anyother ideas on what could be going on? if they are 3.73's my time should be lower and mph should be higher.. Car seems to run strong, seems like it could pull harder off the line but once i do the stall i know that will help out a lot. Could it be the shift points? i'm pretty sure it was shifting at about 6k, is that right or should it go higher? i wasn't shifting manually i just put it in drive and went

Went out again tonight.
Best was;

Reaction-- .262
60ft------ 2.1
330ft----- 5.75
1/8th ET-- 8.72
1/8th mph- 83.15

i found that when i launch from an idle i get a much better ET. I tried launching at the point where the tires were almost spinning probably around 3k and i spun a little bit, i brought it down to around 23-2500 and i didn't spin but launching from an idle is when i pulled the best et of the night with that 8.72 and highest mph.

I still feel like something is off though, once the car gets rolling it pulls hard! but off the line it takes a second to get goin, definatly time for a stall and i'm also going to be getting a BBK SSI intake with 85mm BBK throttle body.

What are some of your other guys with 98-99 ls1's running? without cams and heads, just basic bolt ons, am i far off? should it be faster then what i am getting?

Maybe there are prolems with your trans slipping? You hit it hard and she can't hold the power, you get on it easy off the line and you improve your time. Makes sence that the trans might be having issues?

Just a thought.

that is a good point.. I have started to notice a little pulsating vibration while driving the car, seems to kind of speed up when i am accelerating. Any idea what could be causing that?

UPS finally dropped of my LS6 intake today, as soon as i got home from work i put it on!! took the car down the street just for a quick run and couldn't tell much of a difference right now, but hopefully this weekend i'll see a difference in ET's if i get a chance to go to the track.. Best so far is 8.69 1/8th hoping to see 8.50's would love to see 8.40's, but we will see..

No offense, but kinda doubtful the stock converter is getting you up to 3,000 for a launch point. Either something has been changed there, or the tach is off. The most my stock converter will hold is about 1500-1600 rpm, and I've been racing it for 10 years. Either way, the 60 foot times won't change much until you swap the converter to allow the engine to hit the torque curve in a better spot and pull through the gears at a quicker rate.

Before finishing up your next round of mods, make sure to get the car tuned! Good luck!

it might not of been getting that high, i wasn't watching the tach to carefully i was more concentrating on the lights and what not. The engine sound tach in my head is probably way off! i'll pay more attention the next time i make it out to the track and see what it is actually reading, i know it does pull harder from an idle then bringing the rpms up at all.. as for the tune i am waiting till after i get a converter and a new exhaust setup. There are no dyno tuners or any tuners of any kind around me, i have to go a couple hours out of town to get a good tune so its going to have to wait a little longer

i'm still learning the car and all the track stuff so you will have to excuse my ignorance sometimes..
