Default Help!! No speed increase!!

I have an '02 z28 m6. Last year I was able to get a best of 13.9x at 104....this year I have put on long tube headers, ory, lm2 exhaust, p/p tb and a tune....I took it to Bristol last night to street fights and the best I could get was 13.90 at 103.....granted I could not get traction and my 60 ft times were awful...2.3-2.6...I know the lack of traction and the bad 60 ft times is the cause of the et but would spinning that much cause me to not gain mph as well? I would spin most of first and some of second....I have brand new cooper Zeon rs3a tires.....

Thanks in advance....

Almost always if you run the same time spinning as you did when you didn't spin bad, your mph will be higher. Same et means you have to make the time up somewhere, usually on the big end with mph. is there anyway you let off before the beams?

you really need to start with sticky tires , once traction gets consistent then all the information on your timeslip top to bottom can be dissected to figure out where your strengths and weaknesses lie. You should be able to get that car in the 12's even on a hot humid day if you have better tires.

The trap does seem low , both of my bolt on cars trapped in the 111/112 range and ran 11.9/12.1 respectively but also were both run in negative DA's with 1.7 60 foots for both.

You can search da calculator and some of them even let you select your track , date and time and spit out what the da was , DA can account for several MPH but I think theres more than just that going on... can you post all the info from a couple of your passes so we can look at what happened ?

103/104 trap in a 6 speed car with stock 342 gearing should be going through the traps about to tickle the rev limiter in 3rd gear depending on where your tuner has the limiter set at- did you shift into 4th ? if yes slightly taller tire and slightly increased shift rpm's may gain you a couple mph but after that your going to need 4th gear as you surpass 105 trap. A shift light can help a lot too to wring out every gear consistently and avoid both short shifting and bumping the limiter hard

looks like you're down on power just from your 1/8 mile times. my stock SS with a worse da ran 8.90s with 60ft time in the 2.20s. Still had stock manifolds, ls1 intake, and my two sons in the car. If the car is running good maybe something is off with the tune, like timing real low. I'd think with your 60ft and mods you should still run low 8s with that da, with good tires high 7s in the 1/8.

your down on power across the board which you would think would help to hook the car but your 60 foots are worse too?

how about the most basic stuff like fresh properly gapped spark plugs , new fuel filter , clean air filter , no blockage in intake tract?? ( I sucked up a plastic bag once and it slowed a car down like that)

and you added a ported throttle body in your list of mods verify that it is opening to full throttle.

how about fuel quality ? a couple gallons of unleaded race fuel on top of a low tank is always a good guarantee your not getting any KR which will pull timing=lost power

the mods you added will make your car much quicker than it was you just need to isolate what is causing it to be down on power likely something very basic

When I installed the headers, ory, etc. I changed the spark plugs with TR-55's and MSD wires. I ordered them from the WS6 store, I did not check the gap before installing them as I thought they were pre-gapped. May need to check that. I also changed the fuel filter at that time. The only thing I haven't done is clean my K&N air filter. So i guess thats where I need to start is with cleaning that and checking for obstructions. What else would be a simple check and fix? I am really bummed, I did all that work for absolutely NO gains on the track.

I also checked and last years 60 ft times are pretty consistent with this years...

Would a slipping clutch cause the slow times in the 1/8 and low speed? I've been thinking about it and the night I raced it I felt at times like it was slipping.....

Yes, it would explain your awful 60ft time too. More power doesn't do you any good if you're not putting it to the ground.
