Default First time at the track..

and I disappointed myself. My first run I came in off the highway, teched in, & got in line. Only had to wait for like 1 minute then I was up. I just spun them enough to clean the tires off & staged. I launched at 2000 RPM & dead hooked. Then it immediately bogged & I had to clutch it & pray. It hooked again. Luckily I got a great reaction time & I still managed to pull out a 14.00 & beat the turbo Grand National I was runnin. My next time out I figured I would try to launch at 3000 RPM & try not to bog down. This time I broke loose & stayed loose through 3rd gear(half way down the track) & ended up with a 15.2 & trapped 97MPH. Never picked up my first slip of the day which just happened to be my best (what a dumbass I am). I think my times could have had something to do with my bald stock BFG tires & I have some vibration from the torque arm mount bein out. Also it was like 94 degrees & humidity had to be super high cause it started to rain after my second run. And my buddy usually runs 12.9 in his Z28 & he could only manage to rip off a 13.3 that day.

Anyone have any suggestions for me to better my times? MODS in sig.
Here is a pic of my first launch when I dead hooked. I got some pretty good lift.

Not bad for your first time out. Just remember to keep at it, and practicing what the car likes and doesn't like will tell you how to get lower e.t.'s. With a good hook, mid to high 13s in summer air shouldn't be much of a problem, but keep at it and have fun doing it!

Man that thing seems to lift the front a lot for the mods you have done!

Don't feel too upset, I went out for my first about a month ago, and only ran a best of a 13.5 at 106 mph, with 380 rwhp. I need a good torque converter to get me into my powerband with my new cam and traction (2.3 60ft currently at best) to go along with it.

What kind of 60fts were you running? MPH? I know traction definetly killed me, along with the heat. Sounds like you had those two things working against you, on top if it being your first time out.

Not too shabby for your first time out. Not that i'm exactly a pro w/ my 2.2 sec. 60' (On both street tires and drag radials, go figure :p ). There are two different launching methods for our cars. I have yet to learn the first, but i've heard it's the best. You can either dump the clutch, and modulate wheel spin at a certain rpm (Dunno how to do this, yet....), or you can ride the clutch. Riding the clutch is pretty much brainless, but will yield only minimal wheelspin on launch, while allowing you to transfer power quickly. Of course riding the clutch fries the clutch. Simply hold your rpms around 3500-4000 rpms, release the clutch, but not completely, while getting in on the throttle. After your first 10 - 15 feet, just release it completely, and go through the gears redlining in each gear, of course. You should be able to cut a 2.1-2.2 sec. 60' if you get it down. Maybe someone else can help you to dump the clutch, and modulate wheel spin.

I personally ran a 13.7 sec. 1/4 mile at 104 mph in my 01 WS6 TA, in 90 degree weather at Speedway (1290 ft. elevation), and i'm not the greatest driver, so i'm sure you can easily get your car in the 13's. Let us know how it goes.

I think I will go back to the track right before it closes this year. The weather should be way cooler by then & I should have some new Nitto 555DR on also. Maybe even my Bo White TB. Hopefully then I can hook & pull out at least a 13.5 & trap 100MPH or better. I really think on my first run if I hadnt dead hooked & bogged down (which I feel lost me like .5 on my time) I could have hit a 13.5 that day. I know I lighted the other guy hard enough he never pulled past me even with boggin down. They were also runnin a damn pro tree my first time out. It was a little fast for my first time. I will be practicing my launch alot before I go back.
