Agreed on both fronts. Making a race fair nowadays can sometimes be hard as people try to play games and take any advantage they can get. I don't hang anyone out on the tree nor do I like having it done to me. Thank god for autostart, but the saying "live by the sword, die by the sword" can apply if you are always last to stage and get caught. I'd rather race clean and fair and lose than screw someone over to try and catch a win light.

But that's just me, back off the

I will lay it out like this situation:

I, in my dragster, do my burnout (across the starting line). I am running a door car. He does his burnout. (By the rules, he's not "SUPPOSED" to cross the line while doing a burnout) I am backing up and my competition is creeping toward the pre-stage beam (already finished his burnout and is approaching the beams slowly). He looks at the score board to double check the dial-ins and sees that he has mine in wrong. He looks down at the delay box to change the dial-in and rolls, slowly, through the beams. I'm still well behind the pre-stage beam, but I am rolling toward them.

THIS IS WHERE WE DON'T AGREE, right???

I will not, WILL NOT, rush up and pre stage just to get a freebie. That is *****, period. If you would, then you shouldn't be racing. I don't care if it is a weekly race at your local track or the finals of the Million Dollar Race, it's bullshit!

That is how I feel and you will not change my mind about it, nor will I change yours, I am just telling you, if you pull that kinda stunt at Huntsville Dragway, people will not be coming by to shake your hand after the race, if you catch my drift...

Taco
i dont believe in taking advantage of a mistake unless like you said the prestage is already lit...

if i see him changing or doing something out side the car then i wont rush my self to get him DQ'd... i think you misunderstood my first statement...

i agree that rushing to get the 1st bulb on to DQ your opponent is cheap but if i stage by accident or dont see what's going on.. sorry

so yes i agree with you... taking advantage of some one on purpose is bad

Alrighty, glad we got that hashed out...

Now, let's talk about courtesy staging...

Agree or disagree (will you make somebody who's fully staged before you are pre-staged back out of the stage beams???)

I am talking about somebody "double bulbing" you. Staging fully before you have even pre-staged. It is SUPPOSED to be an automatic DQ, but that never happens. I will make the starter back the other guy out of the beams before I will pre-stage. A lot of times it is an honest mistake. A lot of guys do it to try to mess with you.

I haven't ever done it, but won't say I won't (on accident, never on purpose unless it's in time trials or the run-for-the-money with a friend).

I see that ALL the time, but it's usually just ignorance on the part of the other party... These young punks that show up for test & tune events now are just clueless and don't know that it's poor "race etiquette" to do that...

As far as accidentally red-lighting and such, I've flubbed up numerous times on the bike... Since you have your feet on the ground, it's easy to sometimes just accidentally roll yourself right out of the 2nd beam when you're getting ready to launch. You guys don't have to worry about that unless you're holding the car on the line with your feet.

I wait for them to back out, but no rule in bracket racing I'm aware of that prohibits them from lighting both up. If they do I wait about 5-6 seconds, if they don't move then I'm doing my usual routinue.

Ditto on TNT nights.

GeorgeC, back from the dead! Good to see ya buddy! Coming racing with us anytime soon? Any news from the 2-wheel front?

Derek

I lurk around here from time to time... I'm far from dead.

Derek, I'm going to try and get up there one Saturday, but I'm dropping the motor back out of the Busa pretty soon to do some tranny work on it. I'm going down to Moroso to make some passes this coming Sunday, and will probably get to work on it shortly after that. I think I need to re-degree the cams as well since it still isn't making the power I believe it should.

I just ordered an LM-1 to help me tune it, so maybe that will help some too.

Sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Well, it is supposedly an NHRA rule, under the "General Procedures" heading, but does not specifically include the ET classes, it doesn't say either way concerning the bracket classes. I have always taken for granted that it would be enforced because it is good racing practice in general, rule or not.

At Huntsville, they WILL make the you back up, but only if prompted to do so by the guy in the other lane.

Always works for me!

George,

Good to hear you still can't leave anything alone in the search for power! I'll give ya a call soon, work's been hell.

Taco,

They don't back you out at Gainesville, and I don't think Moroso does it either. There are a few at Gainesville that like to light em both on bracket nights, and there are a few that will "take their time" staging to show them double-bulbing isn't a good idea!

Of course I can't leave anything alone... The nitrous system will be back on the Busa for Sunday, but I've got my smallest little baby jets in it.
