Default Heading to the track again this afternoon

The SS has gone through a minor round of weight reduction over the past few weeks. The AC is gone along with the rear sway bar (not to sure if this was a good idea or not but I'll check the 60's tonight). Heat shields have been removed from under the car along with all the exhaust brackets. I'm estimating probably about a 100 pounds total with everything that was removed. Last time out it ran a couple of 7.64's @ 88+ but the temp was 25 degrees cooler. It's 93 degrees at the track as I type this with the barometer standing at 29.65. 2715 calculated DA right now. I sure hope it gets better before the track closes at 9 PM tonight. The DA was around 1000' last time out so I'm going to be down a bunch of power tonight. I'm hoping the weight reduction will offset the bad air. Results to follow when I get back from the track. Later everyone.

Removing the rear sway bar was a bad idea. Good luck otherwise.

Good luck. Removing the rear sway bar is not a good idea.

Good luck! I removed both sway bars on my 97 WS6 and that mug would sway like you are on flat tires, esp at higher speeds. Front sway bar is a must for drag racing, but rear.. no no no...

Just curious, why is removing the rear sway bar a bad idea as slow as I'm going? The guy that removed eveything from my car for me said that removing it was a good idea until I started into the 6's in the 1/8th @ ~100 MPH or got down in the 1.4 second 60' range. Quicker than that he said it would be needed to keep the car from rolling over on the launch and down the track through 1st gear. I didn't discard it. I'm gonig to put in back on when the 408 goes in. OK, on to the results. The car slowed down overall tonight but I actually expected that because it was much hotter than last time out. Also, thunderstorms all over everywhere except right at the track. I got lucky in that respect tonight. The 60's also went away a tad. Maybe because of the sway bar being removed??? I'll put it back on and see what, if any difference it makes.

Looks like I ought to be bracket racing this car, huh? This was with the 26 x 9.5 x 16 Hoosier QTP's on stock salad shooters and not the MT Street Radials on the Bogarts. I was trying to take wheelspin out of the equation so I could compare apples to apples performance wise. It looks like the weight removal just about exactly offset the worse air running only a tad slower MPH and being off the pace less than a tenth. My chromoly (sp) K-member showed up today and I should be getting the chromoly upper and lower A-arms within the next 30 days. I know they don't make these anymore but I picked up a set and I truly feel fortunate to have been at the right place at the right time to get them. I'm also getting some 15 x 4 Welded RT Bogarts up from to match the rears I have along with some Strange drag brakes. Carpet's coming out along with the console to be replaced with the drag race carpet and shifter. I wasn't going to do that but after looking at the pics of Nine Ball's interior I have to try it. His car was/is an inspiration to me it looked so clean and professionally done. All in all another 250 pounds is coming off the car by about July. It looks like I'm going to keep plugging along with my SI combo trying to get on the SI list in 90+ degree heat and 3000+ DA air. I want to get the car under 3000 pounds before the heavy iron block 408 goes in. Oh yeah, this was through the mufflers tonight and not running open headers like normal. The 7.64's last time out were through the mufflers also so I kept them on tonight to take out that variable. I probably won't be hitting the track again until I either take some more weight off the car or get someone a couple of hundred pounds lighter to drive the car to see if that makes a difference. Thanks for reading. I just feel like sharing info when I have it to share.

Launch pic. Hope it works.

Looks like the DA was around +1700 feet when I got to the track and around +1500 when I left. It got cooler as the night went on but the humidity shot up like a rocket with the thunderstorms in the area. Just wanted to include that for comparison's sake.
