Default First time out at NYIRP...results

I took the Camaro out to NYIRP last night just to see what it runs. Here's specs on the car:
Full weight SS, M6, T-tops, leather, etc...
Pacesetter LT's
TSP ORY
Borla, plate was open
clear lid with K&N
275 Fuzion ZRi's (or whatever they're called)
stock gearing and clutch
street tuned with Hp Tuners

I'm "mildly" disappointed with the results. I expected the car to trap a little higher. The car is definitely tricky to launch with street tires. I'm used to my old Z28 with DR's on it where you could just rev it up and let it rip on the last yellow. I don't have a scanner so I'll write out the timeslip. Here's my best run:

60' 2.265
330 5.946
1/8 8.884
mph 84.22
1000 11.382
1/4 13.485
mph 107.55

on another run, I somehow managed to feather out a 2.142 60' but broke loose really hard into second and i had to get out of it a little, but still went 13.520 @ 106.05

Like I said before, I expected a little more out of the car, and myself, but then again the car is fairly new to me and i had never even triede to launch the car before last night . With a tire on it and a little more seat time I think I could get a 12 second slip, but this will have to do for now. Well let me know what you guys think and any input is appreciated.

Not bad, but the warmer spring air (not sure of the exact temps here) and the lack of traction are the main reasons it's not faster. I'm outta my league on the tune, but what exactly can you tune with HP? I'd think there'd be more there, b/c my full weight Formula clicks off 13.30s-.40s in warm air with just a catback, lid and a good custom tune.

Good luck getting in the 12's!

Derek

Thanks man. I had a local guy tune it for me. I believe he just messed around with the air/fuel and also put a few degrees of more timing into it basically. And for the traction problem, there's not really much more I can do with the tires on it. Like I said I did get one 2.1 60' but then had to get out of it a little bit when I hit second. I do believe that I would trap a little higher with a pair of DR's on there though. My best MPH of 107 was on a run where I kind bogged the launch. For comparative purposes...In my old Camaro I picked up ~2 mph at the 1/8th mile track when I switched from street tires to nittos. So I think I can get that trap a little higher with a better hole shot. The air temp was in the 60s by the way. I'm definitely going to the dyno soon to see what the car puts down because from what I've seen on here, the other bolt on M6 guys are still trapping a little higher than me.

I was at NYIRP Wednesday night and I think I saw one of your runs. Nice car! I know from my experience that the track hooks great on drag radials but crappy on street tires. I think my best 60' prior to DR's was a 2.18 or something like that.

With Nitto 555R's I hit a best of 1.71 and now with MT street radials I have a 1.69 Just beware that Nittos suck in the rain when they have some miles on them and MT's suck in the rain period. But if you do go to a drag radial BE CAREFUL. M6's with your mods can snap a 10 bolt with a high rpm clutch dump. I would still be conservative and shoot for 1.9 60's while I saved for a 12 bolt.

I think your trap speed is a little low for a M6. I would have expected 110 from your car. But it could be in need of a professional tune. I don't know who the local guy was that tuned your car but New Era Performance is a sponsor here and are located in Rochester, NY on Mt. Reed Blvd (not far from where 390 meets 490).

Mike @ New Era dyno tuned my car and I picked up over 20 rwhp (through a unlocked converter) and several mph in trap speed. If you get a few bucks to spare I highly recommend setting up an appointment with him at 585-865-1832.

Good luck and I hope to see you at the track running 12's soon!

Thanks for the comments, I appreciate it. I'm pretty sure I saw you there. As for putting drag radials on the car, I'm not really planning on launching hard on them, more so just slipping the clutch quickly and then stabbing it. The main problem is that I really cant go WOT in first unless I gradually roll into the throttle. If it breaks on a soft launch, or a hard 1-2 or 2-3 shift, then it's just time to buy a 9" or 12 bolt. I didn't buy the car to ***** foot around with it. Regarding the tune, Firehawk853 tuned the car for me. I do agree that I probably need to get a nice, complete dyno tuning session to get the most out of my setup. The car feels very strong, and I don't really think it's lacking too much power. Getting out of the hole with 2.2 60 fts and not going WOT through first gear is obviously screwing my whole run, ET and trap-wise.
