Default Which solid axle to get for 05 GTO

Since nobody has a bolt in anything for a GTO, what solid rear should I put in? I figure the TH400 with a transbrake I'm putting in is going to kill the IRS in short order. I've had people recommend a Strange 60, a 9", or a 8.8. What would the least amount of power to turn?

no reason not to run a 9" with the aftermarket support it has.

well least power to turn would be 8.8, 9 then 60.

I would personally do a 9, but 8.8 can be cheap and strong.

We have looked at the GTO. There is not an easy way to mount a live axle in there. The gas tank is directly above the gear case on the IRS. The Gear case is mounted to the bottom of the gas tank. There is not up and down movement area for a live axle.

It can be done, but may need an aftermarket fuel cell and would not be cheap. Lots of fab work to do this. It would not be a simple bolt in.

i disagree. it can be done. obviously not a bolt in but more of a hold and weld type set-up. i have seen it and actually helped with it. a local shop put a solid axle in a GTO without cutting and still keeping the stock gas tank. when this was fabbed up, i know he made jigs so that he could duplicate the parts but not sure if he plans to actually market it as a kit or not so i dont want to step on his toes and tell how it was done. they are also not a sponsor on here so i know i cant post his info. pm me if you want. i will talk to him tomorrow and see if he plans to sell a kit or not. i will keep everyone informed. pm me if you want the number or website to shop. i hope you guys understand, i wish i could tell you all how it was done because it is actually very simple but dont want to give someone elses secrets away without their consent or taking money out of there pocket since the time was spent making jigs and such.
