My Camaro racecar build
With all the build post on here I thought I'd start my own up.
History of the car: The car is my 1994 Camaro that I originally built in the summer of 2007 with the simple intentions of throwing a LT1 into a v6 camaro and hopefully it runs 12.80's. The stock LT1 engine with bolt-on only stuff ended up running in the mid-11's at 118mph however I wanted to change it to LS power.
I'm a carb person by nature and in keeping with that theme I'm building a 6.0 truck engine with ported 5.3 heads topped with an Edelbrock Vic Jr. carb intake topped with a 750cfm dp carb. I'm going to be using the much talked about MSD 6010 ignition on it.
This car is built with whatever money is left after my wife, 3 kids, house and whatever else life throws at us expenses. I think this build can be accomplished by nearly everybody in here. For example: I bought the car for $600.00 and was running mid-11's for less than $5k, most of the parts on the car I bought from fellow members and from a few e-bay deals. I recently sold my LT1 set-up (engine, headers etc.) for just over $1200.00, that gave me enough money to buy the 6.0 (from many members) for just under $1000.00.
The goals for the car are to run solid 10's on motor at over 120mph on motor and do it cheaply.
Changes for the 2009 season:
6.0 truck engine - paid less than $900
8" 5k stall convertor - $175 to get freshened
9" ford rear (strange center, spool, moser axles) - paid less than $500 for all
Strange rear brakes - $150
rollbar/cage install - ???
lighten vehicle (these other posts gave me some ideas) - ???
Re-wire the car - ???
Powder coat many items - cost of powder
Here are a few pictures, the first one of the car outside of the garage was the first day it rolled out of the garage. The pictures of the nearly completed engine were taken last weekend.
I'll update as progress continues.

Yeah, I'm sure the 9" is giving up a little but for what I have into the 9" money wise I'm not complaining. My set-up guy put all the tricks he knows into reducing its drag and maintaining life.
I might be switching to a flat hood and harwood "ant eater" scoop for clearance, we'll see how I do for clearance.

Feb 28, 2009 update
Powder coating and finishing up building the engine has been my main focus since my last update. The powder coating of every bolt-on cover/bracket/intake is really paying off in the looks department. I'm using that simple kit from Eastwood and it works great plus after a few parts its paid for itself.
I powder coated the following items for less than $40.00:
Intake manifold
oil pan
valve covers
front and rear engine covers
Alternator bracket
PS pump bracket
I hope the engine runs as good as it looks now. I enclosed a picture of it as it sat while mocking up the brackets/drives.
I bought some new wheels for the car the other day and I powder coated them in "black chrome" and they look great, too bad they don't photograph as well as they look.
All the remaining items (msd 6010, coilpacks, msd wires, ngk plugs, chinese SS headers and etc) all are either here or are on the truck headed for the shop now.
I did figure out my 1-wire alternator dilemma, I simply bought a 1-wire alternator from an LT-1 application and bolted it on with one 1 simple little add. As an added bonus its a 140amp alternator and its chrome.
I've been watching you guys getting out the weight on your rides (some more extreme than others) and I'm getting ready with the plasma cutter, zip wheels, holesaw's, and whatever else I have to shed a few "extra" items myself.
I think with all the carbed builds going on in here we need to have a race between us all!
