The only way to do it N/A is a lot of cubes. I would think 430+ to even get close to that.

Plan on getting there this year. Switching to a distributor and carb. Think I found the right converter and gear. Working diligently to get weight off the car.
440ci
.800 lift solid roller
400+cfm heads
8500 rpm
At this point its all in the set up and alot of seat time.

Didn't Joe Honeycutt already go 8's N/a?. I think it was a relatively small c.i. motor(right at or slightly over 400ci) but had a slipper clutch 6spd, solid roller, and massive compression.

400 plus CI, 14 to 1 copression minimum, 400 cfm flowing heads, 8500 to 9000 rpm.. car's got to make a good 800 rwhp, and weigh in under 3000 lbs.

Lots of cubic inches, great flowing heads, high RPM's and super lightweight everything on the car.

Also, plan on lots of maintenance. Lots of wear and tear on the valvetrain, potential short lifespan on the rods and crank.

Where you'd just be working out a run of the mill big block to get these types of numbers, you'd be beating the **** out of the LSX to get into the 8's.

the cylinder heads, intake and valvetrain are the main keys, while i havent done any 8 sec ls motors yet,i have done some sbc's and sbf's,they are require the same stuff
good heads-perfermance inductions c5r heads would be best
intake-perforamance induction single plane or sheetmetal
valve train-jesel rockers,.937 keyway lifters,7/16 pushrods etc.
big bore-to allow the heads to flow properly
lots of compression-13+
light rotating asy for high rpm use-alum rods, lightweight crank
rigid block-everything needs to stay were it belongs at high rpms
good oiling system-dry sump, proper windage tray etc.

expect to pay $25,000+ for an engine like this

Yeah I wish the rules for the N/A class were aimed at the average Joe.

Sounds about right. But if ya want to go fast, that's what it takes. Doesn't matter what the car/setup is, 8 second setups are 25 grand. Sure you can spend less on the motor and go FI, but at the end of the day it's still all gonna add up.

Scary but this figures about right, 25 grand for a 8.90 setup, and every tenth faster you want to go, add about 1100 bucks. Sounds silly but do the math it works out
