On a 2002 Camaro, does anyone know what the stock steel hood weighs?
I weighed a 2002 SS hood with brackets, it's 50 pounds. Is the steel one lighter or heavier? Any info appreciated.

I searched, all I can find is weight of an LT1 SS hood on here.

 

If I was home and had a Scale, I could do it for you. I had gotten a ws.9 hood from US exotics and compared to a Sleak beak T/A steel hood I felt the fiberglass was a little lighter, OK works much in the same a steel frame with Fiberglass work done to them.

 

I'm not sure what the above quote means.

The SS hood is pure SMC and has more mass than the steel hood.
At one time I owned a fiberglass (not SMC) SS replica hood and it was very light.
It's been a few months since I lifted a steel hood, but I don't remember it being this heavy.

Anyone know what a OEM steel 2002 camaro hood weighs?

 

The SS hood has more mass but is a fusion of steel frame with over layed fiberglass and depending if it is an aftermarket fiberglass, hood weight can vary.

 

Look I appeciate your efforts, but I really really don't want to get into a debate over hood construction.

I can't help you with an exact number but think about this:

The struts for a 2002 hood are larger and stiffer than that of a lt1 hood. The weight of the lt1 hood in in the Drag Racing Tech sticky.

I would say 52 lbs as a guess.

I weighed a 2002 SS hood yesterday. With the brackets it's 50 pounds on a certified scale.
I have an SS and a Z28, the struts are the same.

The sticky lists an LT1 SS hood only, no other hoods.

I'm looking for the weight of a stock steel 2002 camaro hood.
Does anyone know?
