How Close Can Helmet Be To Rollbar?

How Close Can Helmet Be To Rollbar? I've been searching and searching for this answer with no luck finding it. I'm getting ready to tack weld the main hoop to the plates. I have about 3-1/2" from the shortest distance where my head sits in a normal position to the main hoop. Is that far enough?

IIRC, it says within 12", I don't think they care if too close, they care about too far??
I know my car is a totally different monster than yours.
My helmet is against the bars, even with the main hoop.
I use the bars as my required helmet pad. Hopefully someone can find the diagram if I don't get it in time.
