Stock Internal M6's... where to shift at?

Where should I shift my M6? I had the black car in my sig shifting around 6300 to try and not push the A4 tranny too much, but I don't know where to shift my M6 Z...The same?? Higher?

Shifting depends on how quick you are. 200-400 rpms before the limiter will be best as it would land you farther up the rpm curve for the next gear.

Since it is stock, you should be actually able to leave it in 3rd as you just cross the traps.

The fastest I have ever gone in a bolt on car [not mine] it had a stock 6150 rev limiter and the shift light was set to 6100. Did not hit the limiter once ;)

about 6000. launch at 7

ya id keep it around 6. no reason to rev it past that unless trying to squeeze thru the traps. the stock cam wont make any power that high and you could end up floating the valves with the stock springs.

I shift at 5900.

Next time out I might go higher.

hmmm.........well we will see. For those who are saying it depends how fast you shift etc, the problem is that I have hp tuners so I can put that rev limiter wherever I want :)

BTW the only reason I would even think of raising it is that I have read quite a few times that the guys going for stock internal records etc kept going faster the higher they moved the shift point.. contrary to popular belief with stock cam.. and from experience I know my black car liked it and had no problem pulling to 62-300

i tried it with mine and gained nothing. i shifted at 6. your springs will thank you. get it on a dyno and see where its making power. that will tell u what your shift points need to be.

about 7400 :D

Only reason you would raise the shift point is to fall into a better power for the next gear, but with a stock cam you shouldn't have to shift much later at all. I shift at ~6200

My bolt-on car made peak power at 6128, and I shifted it at 6500. That was with the 100% bone stock valvetrain, and I never had an issue. Link to dyno numbers

Magnent, don't be a pussy. Shift it at 6500 if you want to go fast. ;)

then you are a lucky man. mine was spent by 5800. i didnt get those revs til i put a cam in my car.

there have been some good threads on this. I tried alot, and best was I used to leave my shiftlight at 5800. the 1-2 I'd pull at 6050-6100
2-3 59xx
3-4 same, or Id let it be on fully if I could (60xx-6100) limiter was 6400 I think?

Anything more it would lose 1- .5 mph.. 113.9 best

Wow.... and I was set on 6k :bang: now I don't know what to do... I guess I could just do it the normal way and try it out myself...
