Default minitub require repainting 1/4 panel?

just wondering. i have seen some guys have "weld burns" on the 1/4 panels and some dont. i am going to have a wolfe mini tub kit installed this spring and needed to figure out if i need to wait to paint the car until AFTER the mini tub kit is installed.

thanks!

mini tub shouldn't weld to the quarter at all, you're thinking a full tub perhaps?

If you go with a wolfe mini tub you will not have burn marks in the 1/4.. I have seen builds madman has done with those burn marks.. all depends on how the builder does the tub.

You will not burn the quarters with the Wolfe kit. All welding is done to the inner wheel well.

If you did a full tub and welded the tubs in you would burn the quarters. At that point you stretch the wheel wells to so it would all be part of the deal.

even if doing a full tub, it should not be welded to the quarter panel. It will spider crack the clear over time. Good way to mess up a nice paint job.

I would wait to paint the car until after all the mini tub/rollcage work is done. Lots of crawling in and out. And chance of an air hose or welder hose to scratch fresh paint.

i have a 6 point welded rol bar in the car and have no plans of a 10 point or more. not in this car.

i still might just get the car's mini tub done before the paint.

always do paint last. less chance of effing it up. just make sure its a good shop so they dont overspray everything.

fiberglass cloth. 99.9% of prostock cars were done this way back when we had to use steel quarter panels (plus the tubs were aluminum, then carbon just before the full carbon bodys came out). Look at your older prostreet cars that welded the tubs to the quarters. It always spiders the clear where the weld is.

correct. Not that im aware of. Just cut the strips 4" wide and around 8" long. Scuff up the tub and the quarter panel. do this on the inside of the tub (where the wheel is). Doing this also seals the smoke from coming inside the car and makes this area hard as a rock. Plus you can always cut the fiber glass and take the tubs out if you ever need to paint the cage or update the car.

Everybody is correct about no burn marks on the fender. You'll be fine with the Wolf mini-tubs if you go the welding route.

Hey Gator, what kind of price are you looking at for getting the mini-tub installed? I've also got the Wolf kit and am wanting to get it in before too long.
