Default 5/8 stud question...

I kind of hate to ask this but what the hell...

How difficult is it for you to put your wheels on with 5/8 studs?

The reason I ask is because I drilled out, tapped and installed 5/8 studs tonight and the wheels don't exactly just slide on.

I am thinking one of the studs is just a little off but wondered how easy it would be to put the wheels on if the studs were perfect?

Thanks

what kind of wheels are you running? Is it a racing 5/8" stud with an 11/16" shoulder? They should slide right on.

It's a little to late for this but I would of had a machine shop or send the axles back to the manufacturer to have them drilled. you may have two problems.

1. the bolt circle is off not letting the wheel slide on right, and when you tighten the wheel down, it gets hung up and wont let the wheel sit flush with the flange.

2. the wheel can get off centric to the center of the axle causing the wheel to want to "hop" as it rotates.

That may of been a costly mistake. Hope its an easy fix for you.

We have Billet Specialties comp 5 rear wheels and you have to wiggle them on and off of the studs, I think if it is a billet center they are tighter to get onoff over a cast center (weld racing type)

i had moser drill my axles for 5/8" studs, you do have to wiggle the wheels on and off with my billet specialties, i imagine if you drilled and tapped even one stud just a little bit crooked you're SOL.

Thanks for the responses guys.
I tried to take a shortcut and not remove the axle and use a drill press. I can get the wheel on with just a little wiggling, so I am not f'd. The other axle I am going to remove and do properly.

just curious... how long did it take to drill the axles, and how many drill bits did you go through?

It was better than I had expected. Didn't even break one bit! I used a 1/2", then a 9/16" then the tap.
