Default Nothching windshield...

Who is doing this or planning on it? I'm sure I can figure this out but wouldn't mind seeing pics of some other cars thats done it already. I will be fitting a tall deck BBC and want run my return piping straight thru the firewall and know Iwill have to notch the windshield.

Should be straight foward, you'll need lexan/speedglass of course. I would mark the windshield with it propped on the car of where you wanna cut to, continue the cuts straight down and box in the opening with sheetmetal. I've seen it on a Z28 at the chassis shop once before, looks killer.
BBC huh? I was gonna do that a while back-EVERYBODY talked me out of it.
Guy on this board did it, super cool build-can't wait to see how yours goes together.
Good luck.

I'd make sure to round the corners where you have to cut into it. If ya leave a sharp angle I would think there would be a greater chance of a stress riser and cracking.

And run a hood scoop? Like a pro stock car? That's the only way I see that looking good...

I started this build with an LSX 427 turbo setup, then I got talked some since into by some pretty smart racers and went BBC, tall deck, all aluminum KB block. In the end, it will cost only a little more mainly in fabrication expense, but I won't have to flog the crap out of this (just ask Paul Major) like I would have an LS motor, and I love LSx motors.

I have the speedglass windshield and VFN extended hood already. I wouldn't mind seeing how folks did theirs just for piece of mind, but my fab guy knows what he wants to do already i guess I'm good.

Thanks for the comments/recomendations..

ya, drill a 3/8, or 1/2 hole if you don't need it to be really tight. Were the sides of the notch will be in the corner and cut TO them. I'd use a unibit over a 1/4 hole size, a 2 flute will grab. run it fast, and light pressuer.

I plan on doing it. I just ordered an extended hood. Adjusting the dizzy is a pain. Have you ever tried phasing the distributer with a mirror and your neck all kinds of twisted?

Take a look at how Stenod did it with Tom's new car... that's notching it back the right way. I am having it done the width of the VFN hood where it contacts the windshield for maximum motor exposure/ease of working on stuff.

I am also going to have a couple plates put in right at the base of the windshield pillars, and have it run across the body to help retain some of the strength in this area, maybe even put a couple 1/8 plates off it to the box in of the firewall on the inside under the dash to help keep the strength in this area.

Probably end up just doing the whole damn cage over at the samet time at this point, by the time I get done cutting I'm gonna need the 25.3 to hold it all together

Yup, that's done right too. I want to do the same thing but go right up to where the VFN hood sits, and go as wide as the hood too, make working on stuff that much easier.

I really wish Bob was still in Long Island.

When you do this, it's a really good idea to weld a plate right where the windshield pillar heads up towards the roof on both sides and tie the cage in there, just to give the cross area of the body some added support. Might be too late if all that part of the cage is dnoe, but if you can do it, I would. A steel plate off the dash bar to the firewall would also be a good idea.

I'd to it as wide as you can too, It will make it that much easier to work on stuff later.
