Default Drag tubes?

Do running tubes really slow you down? If so how much?

They will add more rotational weight to your wheels. They wont slow you now that much but every .001 counts if you are running heads up or going for a record.

I do not run tubes on my Hot Rod. I do know people that do. It will help you keep air in the tires awhile in the garage.

Some people also say the it helps you to be more stable at the top end of the track.

It is all up to you on the tubes brother.

Thumbs up

Yes, they do cost alot.

The cam only Hot Rod is running well. Big thanks to Andrew of the use of the motor.

Madman is going to put in a motor plate and a new water pump. Maybe in Feb. I can see if we can go even faster. I sure would like to run in the 10's before we put the new motor in.

Give Andrew hell for me also.

Coach

Same as Coach, I don't run tubes, but my tires will go from 12 psi to 5 psi over a 2 week period from sitting in the garage. They have no problem holding air all day racing or even over night, but seem to shrink about 1 psi every 2 days. And if its cold out the pressure drops faster.

If I was getting loose at the top end or anything I wouldn't care about sacrificing a hundrenth to put tubes in for safety. No problems so far trapping @ 126 MPH on motor.

what about screwing your tires in? at what psi do you have to start doining that? i would love to give andrew hell about that but i moved to el paso so it would be kinda hard. car is slow as hell up here since the track is @ 4000 ft.

I screwed my tires to the rims just a few weeks ago. I was moving the tire on the wheel about 1/2" on each pass.

I bought the Moroso rim screws and put 8 on each rim. No more tire movement and I'm still not running any tubes. The bead on my ET drag is thicker than the screw is long.

I screw my tires to the rims also. I have always done this to my drag slicks.

I put the slicks to about 20 pounds when I put the screws in. I put 8 screws in the front and 8 screws in the back of each rim.

I will give Andrew hell for the both of us.

I went without tubes for about a year(screwed also) lost air,had audible leaks @ 10.5 PSI.I put tubes in and it is great.Never mess with it anymore.
It doesn't feel any different up top.
It really didn't effect ET at all.
I didn't want to put tubes in,but I'm VERY glad I did.

There is a secret to running slicks without tubes. My car has sat since Thunder with 11 lbs of air. NO LEAKS. All you need is some dishwashing soap. Coat the inside of the tire before mounting and the leaks will stop.

I still like tubes, the car is more stable to me.

I like how the hook with tubes set at 11lbs over no tubes but it does add 9.8lbs to the car.

But the ole soap trick is old school,it works very well

I've run tubes since i had the MT Streets mounted. I am still pretty much at stock horsepower but i should mark the rim/tire and make sure they are not moving. The obvious advantage as they have said is they do not loose pressure and you can run them on really low pressure and not worry about the tire falling off the rim. The disadvantages though, if you do get the tire spinning on the rim, you could rip the tube all together, and balancing a tire with a tube is a bitch. One of the tires took 8 onces and the other 7 ounces. I'm running convo pros and with such little caliper clearance you are very limited to where you can mounth the lead weights on the inside of the rim.
