Default Cam or Big stall TC (help)

Ok, I need some help to decide to either go with a big stall (TCI ssr3800 or bigger) or Cam only (possibly Gm hot cam). My goal is low 12's or high 11's. Im moving down to So FL. So once the move is done. I will replace the LCA, Panhard rod, LCA brackets, & BMR box SFC (parts already in hand). Next will be LT, custom 3"-Y into flowmaster merge & possibly a custom LM with a 3.5" race muffler. I have a yank 3200 stealth TC which is ok, but not a real performance TC. The car is my weekend toy . Would a bigger stall really help my times or should I just stick with what I got & do a cam..

Thanks for the info
Bill

Bigger stall will help more than a cam. You will run faster at the track and on the street with the stall, but you will produce more power (on the dyno) with a cam. With the present and future mods you list, and a 3800+ stall, you should be in the low 12s, possibly even high 11s without heads or a cam.

I would do the converter first and then the cam down the road.

Remember 99% of people wished they went bigger with their converter. I would not go below 4000 stall with your 3.42 gears if you plan to stay NA.

If you plan to go forced induction or spray down the road consider looking at a stall in 3200-3600 range if you drive on the street alot.

Should high run 11's with all bolt ons and 4000-4400stall converter. mid-low 11s with some minor weight reduction and cam. (Range depending on what size cam you go with

A TCI SSF3800 will get you into the 11s without internal engine mods. All you gotta do is figure out how to hook it!

Save the cam for later and do plenty of research here at LS1Tech before you make your choice. I think you'll change your mind about the Notcam.

Ok, Converter next!!! Thanks for the help. Now which one?? Im now thinking of possibly the SY4000 it has a small str so the hit wouldn't be too hard for the street, RIGHT? I also here the SS4000 doesn't hit real hard also? Any help again I would appreciate it. I've tried to contact YANK the last few days with no luck.
Thanks again,
Bill

"I also here the SS4000 doesn't hit real hard also?"

I think people that say things like this only *think* it hits softly because they don't have the traction to use the converter. The converter hits HARD, they spin, they think it hits softly. Get hooked and try again.

I'm pulling 1.55s with this converter, 3.23 gears, and 3525 lb raceweight. It's a VERY hard hitting converter compared to the streetability of it. It drives like some companies' "3200" stalls.

BTW, don't worry with the SY4000 unless you have NO plans to ever go to the track on sticky tires.

Also, the SY4000, having a low STR, is going to make it seem looser on the street than an SS4000, for example.

I`d go for the converter first. I can`t speak for the SS4000, but my TCI Comp. 4400 hits like a MONSTER! You will need tires.

I talk to Mike at Yank today & he recommended the Ytp4000/2.8str due to im running 3:42s. Mike advised it has excellent street manners & with DR's 1.6 are possible & 1.5 with ET's. Also I should see .5 drop in time compair to my current converter. Thanks for all the imput..

You would HATE the car if you put a big cam with stock stall.

Seriously. I've driven a G5X-2 car with a stock torque converter. That's the wrong way to do it. Stall first, cam later.
