Default Battery Boxes

Im moving my battery to the trunk before LSX and just wondering what you guys use to pass tech. I need something sealed Im sure. Its going in spare tire area, using a junk tail light to drill a hole in for a shut off, then I take the lever apart and put my nice shinny light in for car shows and just driving around..

Thanks!

I did some searching on this and the Moroso and Summit boxes look to be the more popular items. Anyone know if you can do a rear bulkhead instead of a box?

Well I guess the guys doing mine cant get the Moroso Box to fit my battery or it doesnt fit the car, I cant remember. Is there a rule on Dry Cell Batterys not being sealed? like just using the BMR Box or similar? Iv seen a few pictures of guys that just have a BMR Box and a battery just chilling there with no metal or plastic box..

To pass NHRA/IHRA tech, it has to be a sealed box no matter what kind of battery. It also has to be vented outside the car with a push/pull cutoff switch. That's what we get when we don't have a sealed off trunk.

Moroso boxes seem to be the most popular. They DO fit in our cars...where were you trying to put it?

There are only a few that are NHRA/IHRA legal other than that. Those guys with the open boxes or just having the battery tied down are not legal, plain and simple. They either don't need to pass tech or have a good relationship with their tech guy

The only way to not run a battery box is to have a rear bulkhead that separates the trunk for the inside of the car. That is also NHRA legal.

I think dry cell used to be allowed outside of a sealed container, but they've changed that rule in recent years. Cut some of the gray area out.

General Regulations 8:1
In leu of rear firewall battery may be located in a sealed .024 steel .032 aluminum or NHRA accepted Poly box.

this is just part of the rule but nowhere in the rule does it state that you can run a dry cell battery outside of a box without a rear firewall.

Hope this helps

PS if you buy the Wolfe Racecraft deal that go in place of the package tray and you plan on running alot in Div 3 they will require you to box in behind the plasic panels with .032 alum as well. I learned this the hard way and had to make up some BS panels when I ran the Fall Classic at Indy a few years ago or go home without making a run.

I posted above in reference to your dry cell question. They dont care if its dry cell or not. A battery in our trunk MUST be in an NHRA approved sealed box and vented.
