I've seen a few 5 point bats in Corvettes but not F bodies, I went with a 6 point bolt in but also welded the main hoop to the floor.

Swing outs ARE legal to 8.50 and a correctly installed bolt in is stronger than a weld in roll bar.
Edited for correct ET

Man, if I'm going 135+ mph, do you really WANT swingouts?

Well from what ive read its because they use backing plates that sandwich the floor pans and distribute the pressure more evenly. Now Im only talking about a 4-5-6 pt roll bar not a full cage.

Really? i cant see that being true. Im not calling you on it, but i just see it being like SFCs. Weld ins are light years stiffer and more functional than bolt ins

Page 20.25 of the 2010 NHRA rule book (the 2011 is not out yet but I expect it to be the same since a change is not listed in the 2011 rule updates)

Swing out side bar permitted on OEM full bodied car 8.50 et and slower.

Then they list the requirements.

five points are cheaper and they take less time to install they are also lighter but the do not keep the car as stiff as a six point.

bolt in VS weld in. bolt in is easier to install but slightly heavier due to 6X6 plates on the bottom as well as the top. Bolt in is easier to remove if you ever want to sell it or quit racing and dont need it anymore

I have no preference it depends on what you are going to do with the car. If you just need to be legal and dont plan on ever making the car go 9.99 or 135 go either way. If you plan on one day getting to 9.99 or 135 but need a bar for now go bolt in. Then you can take it out and sell it when you move up to a cage and sell it.

5-pts give you zero protection on the passenger side incase of rollover...symmetry is a good thing for protection!

swingouts are legal to 8.50...from the 2011 rulebook
Swing-out side bar permitted on OEM full-bodied car 8.50 e.t. and
slower

Oh they are legal. We just wont do them on a full cage. We don't like the idea of making the door bar multiple pieces. That bar is there for a reason in-case something happens.
