Default Lite Weight Steering Column

What LW Steering Column are you guys useing?
I have a Grant wheel with quick release hub on a stock column now.
I'd like to get a column that will work with my quick release hub.
I think I got my hub and wheel from Madman, not sure.
Thanks guys

It should. Is it the SFI hub?

I had DMH build me a column when he was a sponsor, and it fit perfect. One thing I did, was had it made about 2 inches longer then stock to bring the wheel closer to me, since I have my seat way back in the car.

Thinking about it a 2nd time, there's wheel spacers that you can get that will space the steering wheel back.. I have seen them in the ART catalog I have, and they're available up to 5 inches long. Had I known that, I would have had the column made 3 inches shorter then stock, and got the wheel the 2 inches closer with the long spacer, which bolts up between the wheel and the quick release hub.

This, would make for alot shorter column to deal with when getting in and out of the car...

Just something to think about. When putting a column in, you have the chance/ability to move the wheel position to make you more comfortable. There's a few ways to go about that... some might work better for you then others.

Burkhart can for sure take care of you as well... they've done lots of stuff with parts for these cars, and every one I have ever gotten from them has been 110%

Thanks JL,
It is getting harder and harder to get in and out of the car these days. I do have alittle beer belly and alot older.
Never thought about a shorter one with a spacer.
Do you think that the spacer would be ridgid enought, and not going to flex at the hub. How much do the spacers sell for.

Here's a link to the ART online catalog, page 15:

http://www.appliedracing.com/index-2.html#/Applied Racing Technology 2011 Catalog/14

$115 for the 5 inch one.

I think it would be plenty rigid. If your wheel feels rigid now, I can't see that spacer, with it's large diameter deisgn feeling anything less then solid. Only thing you might feel is a little wobble from the sfi hub being increased becuase of the distance, as mine has a slight wobble to it. Not bad, I can't say what it would feel like at a 5 inch distance.... but that's the only thing I can see causing anything resembling a loose feel.

One thing is for sure, if you made the column 5 inches shorter, how easy would it be to get in and out of the car? Even the smaller 3 inch spacer they have, would surly make it easy.

I built my own. the lightweight columns use a 3/4" moly steering shaft. They use a weld on spline hub that is usually the same pattern as the bolt on hub you currently have.

Im planning to use the TRZ column kit ... All these bolt ins are nice, but I want to make sure it fits me pretty well.

The Burkhart setup doesnt look like there is anyway to adjust, all the positions are fixed and welded when it gets to you.

The DMH one I have is fixed too. You can shim it down a little with washers on the threaded posts it bolts in with, which I did and got it where I wanted it that way. I also, as stated before had it built a little longer so it would put the wheel in a more comfortable position for me.

I was able to tell DMH where I wanted the wheel compared to stock, about the same height, just closer to me by 2 inches. I think the colum was built to drop the wheel an inch, but due to the increased length, it's in the same stock height. Worked out great for me.

Does it have the same pattern as the stock splines.
I'm just trying to use my hub and wheel, instead of having to buy another hub and/or wheel.
Thanks
