Question What will I lose going with an auto?

I'm thinking about buying a new car, it's a 98 Z28. I tried to find something 97-up with a standard but couldn't (atleast not in my price range). The one I'm looking at has an automatic, is it really that much of a disadvantage in racing? (Street/track/whatever). Any comments or advice is really appreciated

I've got an automatic 98 Z, great car. Stock she ran 13.4 at 104.9 in cold weather. I've owned 5 fox bodied Mustangs and 5 TRs in the last 16 years. The 98 blows them all away in all regards, performance, ride, comfort, gas mileage, you name it. The A4s are, usually, quicker in the quarter, but from a roll you'd probably lose to an M6. A4s are also cheaper, especially the Camaros.

I would buy a automatic the next time around I was getting a new f-body. All you would need to do to run 11's is buy a converter, headers and sticky tires.

Good luck with your new ride.
