E85 or 110 octane? Which should I use
110 leaded or unleaded?
I know price wise 85 is cheaper but which is better and/or work better.
I have a turbo setup, FMIC 96lb injectors already, th400 and it will see more track time than anything. I would like to drive on street once in a while and I was thinking of getting another PCM to tune on 93 unleaded. THen swap pcms for when its in 110 mode. BUt If I do e85 then it will always have the same tune and be set on kill lol.
did a ton of research on it though and you can make more power on e85 than on 116 octane (c16) provided its summer blend (85% ethanol) e 85 is a marketing name for a series of fuels ranging from 70-85% ethanol depending on location and time of year if your in colder climates.
If your in a colder area you will need to monitor what percentage you are getting to keep a safe tune.
e85 is rated at 105 octane but that is the minimum rating for 70%e .85 %e is 112 octane but acts much higher because it has huge charge cooling properties and where it is a cleaner fuel you can run much richer air fuel ratios without fouling plugs so you can really stuff some fuel through and it will take a ton of timing.
if your in a warmer climate this added charge cooling benefit can go a long ways in having a car that can take hot laps if you get down to a finals on a hot day without overheating or power dropping off. I have even heard of demo derby guys running it so they can keep going after puncturing a radiator.
the e85 forum is a good place to research or any forum for a boosted platform you will see the top dogs going with e85/e98 and ditching their intercoolers as they become a restriction and are no longer needed for charge cooling ( more e98 than e85)
try fast fords & modular mustangs forum for the e85/e98 section lots of guys using it there also turbo buick forum , many grand national guys going the e85 route and they also have an e85 specific forum.
indy cars run e98 and they are around 19 to 1 compression , no gasoline can handle that
Frost on here offers dual flash tuning btw where you can swap between 2 pcm's on the fly , might work better for you than physically swapping pcm's , seen it talked about on hp tuners forum may be worth looking into
