Default Battery relocation fuse ?

Couple questions, hope this is in the right place.

All the diagrams I have seen where people actually use a fuse, is between the cutoff switch and alternator. What size fuse is acceptable here.

Also why is the starter wire not fused? Its just as long of a run as the alt wire. thanks

Im using 150a fuses in my system which is plenty depending on your setup.

The starter is engaged through a solenoid during the actual start-up of the engine not continuous like the alternator so a fuse isn't really needed.

Ok so the long run up to the solenoid on the starter isn't always hot?

It's hot all the time...

edit: Should've mentioned that like Rene said...I also have my ground fused. Ive done several vehicles like that and never a single problem.

I use 150A but my current system has a different alternator than the factory ls1 unit...in the case of using the factory alternator I would go 175A or 200A since is has a higher amperage than the one I'm using.

no problem...but if you choose to run a power source off of the starter (like a POS lug in the engine compartment for example) definitely put a fuse to that.

I have a wire running off the starter to my fuse box. That ok or should I move it to the alternator stud?

^^ Indeed it is. The fuse size depends on the wire size. I used 175 amp fuses on both the starter, and alternator wires. 2 and 1 gauge wires. Use a slow blow fuse.. Here is what i got:

Just put a 200 amp fuse on the ground wire and the whole system will be protected.

definitely do that...I'm glad Rene covered that point as to not mislead anyone reading the thread...good luck and it's nice to have the battery moved to help de-clutter the engine bay
