Then lightly primed the bare metal area's again with areosol can and wet sanded the entire bar then sprayed base clear on it again. This is a major PITA!!! Lots of time and cost in paint.
POR15, $50 at most and hardly no taping due to brushing it on. After 1 year I lightly sanded it and brushed another coat on my cage in mustang and looked even better the second time around with por15.
Holds up better than base coat against scratches from getting in and out of car.
Take it from a 20 year paint and body guy! I've been down both roads on this subject.
I've left my windows down in my race car with the sun beating down on the cage for 5-10 hours a day for over 2 years and I've not seen one spot on my cage turn the milky brownish color people talk about when it fades.
My cage is shinny black like 2-3 years ago when I put it on there.
I put POR15 on a pontoon trailer last summer. Just one coat. That will sit out in the sun all summer with no boat in it. The boat is in the lake all season.
That should be the real test lol.
