Roll cage paint what 2 use?????????? I'm finishing up a trans am I got and I'm bout ready 2 paint the cage so I'm lookn 4 ideas? I'd like tovpowdercoat it but it's too much trouble so I've seen some people using a hammertone rust oleum paint n brushing it on and a few other ways. Who gas what and how was it done and how does it look and hold up just don't wanna start n it not turn out good n have to start over! Sanding paint off a roll cage isn't fun! So if anyone's got any feed back please post ur method with pics if u gave any!

I did mine with Rustoleum sunrise red and a finish brush. I didn't thin it out or anything and it's damn close to the factory red of my TA. Pain in the *** and of course it was 90*+ in wonderful Midwest humidity in the garage. Yea it's going to suck but from 5 feet looks like it's powder coated

Then lightly primed the bare metal area's again with areosol can and wet sanded the entire bar then sprayed base clear on it again. This is a major PITA!!! Lots of time and cost in paint.
POR15, $50 at most and hardly no taping due to brushing it on. After 1 year I lightly sanded it and brushed another coat on my cage in mustang and looked even better the second time around with por15.
Holds up better than base coat against scratches from getting in and out of car.
Take it from a 20 year paint and body guy! I've been down both roads on this subject.
I've left my windows down in my race car with the sun beating down on the cage for 5-10 hours a day for over 2 years and I've not seen one spot on my cage turn the milky brownish color people talk about when it fades.
My cage is shinny black like 2-3 years ago when I put it on there.
I put POR15 on a pontoon trailer last summer. Just one coat. That will sit out in the sun all summer with no boat in it. The boat is in the lake all season.
That should be the real test lol.
I used rustoleum hammer tone black from the spray can. The spray black is darker than the brush on which looks more grey once it dries. Take all of 30 sec to touch up a spot when needed.
