Anytime you multiply the torque output, you will increase your acceleration. Which is what rear end gears do. The catch is that you have to make sure that you have enough operating rpm at the end of the run.

In your case what are your rpms when you pass the traps? If for example you are at 6400 and your redline/rpm limit is 6600 then you might not have enough room. The difference between 4.11 and 3.73 is .38. So that is close to 300 rpms with a 1:1 tranny ratio. If you have at least that many rpms from redline when you pass the traps, then you can make the switch.

ET wise, I'd have to guess I'd say a tenth to tenth and a half.

Where did you find that formula for the .38 and 300 rpm's.
If I went from 4:11 to 4:56 what would the rpm increase be.
Thanks

I always use Wallace Racing for any automotive calculators. The gear ones are on the right. Plug in your gears and mph and it will tell you or rpm. Then just change the gear set and it will tell you your new rpms.

The very first calculator in the gear calculator section
http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculators.htm

From 4.11 to 4.56 is a 756 rpm jump at the same mph.

I run 4:11 at about 6000 through the traps in 3rd gear and it pulls good and strong through all the gears.
