Tach issues

Tach issues Ok I have searched and am continuing to search for answer, but have yet to find anything.
I have installed a 5" autometer tach in my car (98 Trans am with 2000 harness and computer) and set it up for a 4 cylinder. The tach reads spot on at a idle but as the car revs and the rpms go up the tach starts getting further and further off. At 4000rpm on the factory tach and on the HP tuners log the autometer tach reads 3500 and gets worse above that.
I am at a loss on what to do. Like I said I am searching for my answer but if anybody can please help.
