well, it takes a lot for you and the car.
besides all teh nhra safety stuff you are gonna have to find a wya to get the weight of the car down. no offense gang, but 4th gens are sort of pigs. the basics of gutting teh car will make your life a ton easier. some race classes require a "full interior" which means there is gonna be a good amount of weight in carpet and dash and stuff that you can't get rid of.
for the chassis you will have to decide if you wanna go with a "stock" suspension or if you want teh car back halved. stock is actually teh easier/cheaper option. all you would have to do is go through the after market offerings and grab teh lightest/strongest/best geometry version of everything. back halving a car costs a ton of bread and has to be certified.
the motor is the biggest expense. it takes a bunch of power to go that fast. adn as we all know, power = $$$$.
tranny is pretty easy, a built th400 or pg should be abel to take care of it.

later

**** with a BBC all you need is a merlin tall deck 4.5" bore block, eagle 4340 4.5" crank, good rods and pistons, $3k heads and a fogger. put it in a leaf sprung f-body like a '79 model and take out a crap load of weight. can all be done for less then $10,000 if done all by your self and you got an 8 second car that will last a whole lot longer then a 8 second LS1.

well it might be alittle bit more but if you do every thing completely by your self and use a cheap 79Z to work with it could be done. its not really that hard with a 572CI BBC with the right heads and nitrous on top. i even heard of people doing it with the stock 8.5 10 bolt those cars have.

You might do it for under 10K, but I dont see it, oh yeh remember to pull the pin on that grenade when you turn the top bulb on when you make your 1st pass.
