Ghetto !power steering...

Re: Ghetto !power steering...
I've done the loop but I haven't driven the car yet. I know it's going to be a workout driving on the SZ50s but it shouldn't be too bad on the skinnies. I'm hoping to get a real manual rack in the next few months.
BTW, I weighed the PS pump, reservoir with some oil in it, bolts, bracket, and pulley and it all came in at 11 lbs. I did it mainly to open up the engine bay to relocate my coil packs but 11 lbs is 11 lbs.

I've done it and here is my observations:
Much more stable at high speeds with slicks,
Not much effort if the front end has been lightened and running skinnies.
Very hard to turn at a dead stop if you have stock type wheels on the front. With my car at 3200lbs raceweight, its really not a big deal with skinnies but takes effort with 17x9.5 zr-1s on normal driving around town and turns/off ramps. When you loop the lines together, make sure you dont empty all of the fluid from the rack. Just let a little bit drain. You need some fluid in there.
