Default Thunder 224 114lsa cam + stock heads = new best!!

Justin (Jsears8) and I made the 2 hour drive to Hattiesburg today. I just installed a Thunder 224 114lsa cam last week and been really wanting to try it out. The car felt awesome on the street. I just had to see how well it did at the track.

When we got there, we found out they redid the starting line last week. All the rubber was gone, so it would take awhile before the track would hook. To tell you how bad it was, Justin cut a 2.3 60' on ET Drags today. I think I saw him pull the wheels on that launch. LOL

I ended up making around 8 passes today. The track did start hooking towards the end of the day, but nothing like it normally was. My best 60' today was a 1.77. .

Here was the best slip:

60' ... 1.771
1/8 ... 7.515
mph ... 93.94
1/4 ... 11.668
mph ... 119.78

I backed that up with a 11.670@119.48 (1.78 60') and a 11.698@119.20 (1.85 60'). I could only leave around 3000-3500 today. Normally I leave the line at 5k+.

I was shocked with the MPH!! Almost 120 traps with stock heads. The car will ET better once I find some traction. Almost 2 tenths faster with almost a tenth worse 60' in very similar air. I'm very pleased!

The car still needs to be tuned on the dyno w/ LS1 edit. Geoff is going to do that tomorrow or possibly Tuesday. I going to bump my revlimiter higher since the cam is still pulling strong at 6600. With those few things, I think 120 traps aren't out of the question. If I can find some traction, I'm shooting for 11.4x.

Thanks John! The track didn't have scales, but nothing has changed since the bolt on pass (unless the cam swap added weight, LOL). So, raceweight was 3450, give or take a few pounds.

LOL, great times man. I didn't think a 2.3 60' was possible on ET Drags. ~120mph with stock heads is hauling ***!

Jason,
Great times in your Hod Rod.
Seems I made the right choice in Thunder Racing. (April 1st baby) I have a question, why did you change your Cam and Heads set up?

Those are good numbers for a cam only setup. The car ran 11.1@125 with the solid cam / heads setup?

LOL, Vince, this motor is staying put for the time being. How long will it stay like that? We'll see....

Coach02Z28: Is that your the car coming in for stage 2 GTPs/TR 224, 12-bolt, roll-cage, clutch, etc? That is going to be a mean setup. I traded my other motor with Paul@Thunder because to keep racing the car, I would have needed a roll cage. I really didn't want to do this to my daily driver. The tracks around here give you up to 11.49 without a cage. I'm going to be REAL close to that if I can get the car to hook. LOL

Terry: Thanks for the compliment, but you are starting to sound like a broken record. I think it is time you find another tune to play. You know what my car ran with that setup, so why keep bringing it up? Having the limitations (rpm wise) of the stock shortblock, I think the car ran extremely well and was very pleased with it. The cam was very small by solid roller standards since we didn't want to spin the motor much past 6600rpms. If you want to see what a bigger cam will do in a setup like that with a built shortblock, stay tuned.

Jason,

Yes, It is my Rot Rod that is coming into Thunder Racing for a little tune up.

So , What is up the putting in a roll cage in your daily driver. This car is my daily driver also, I just want one that will haul ***!

What kind of times do you think this set up will run?

How consistant do you think this set up will be bracket racing? This is my ultimate goal in the long run.

You guys can get in a pissing match about who runs the fastest time with the lightest set up
( hey thats cool if thats your thing) but, who can cut a light and run the number! That is the Secert, a quater mile at a time!

I am really stoked today because I just bought a really cool trailer. (20ft, box, dove tail sweet, no more changing wheels & tires at the track)

P.s. Excuse me for venting a little.

I think the setup is going to run real well! It is good you a getting a 12-bolt, because that Mcleod clutch is going to hit the tires HARD. Consistency in a M6 car is all about driver. That is going to be all up to you. Look forward to meeting you in a few months!
