ET Drag Vs. Hoosier Slick?
ET Drag Vs. Hoosier Slick? Im ordering a new set of slicks and im looking into the 26x8.5x15 ET Drag and 26x9x15 Hoosier Slick. I found that the ET Drags are actually 8.1in. contact patch but all i see on the hoosier is 9in. Is that misleading or is it smaller in contact patch?
I don't want to much contact patch because i ran into a problem with the 26x10x15 ET Drags i had last year,killed my 3rd gear BIG time by swelling up the tire over 1 inch across the traps. I'm thinking the Hoosier will swell up to almost 1 inch across the traps while the ET Drag will swell slightly but not much more than my 10.5 ET Streets. Which tire would hook as good? I know the Drag will hook but im worried about it being narrower but i don't want to over tire the rim again.
I'm out of the game for awhile with a blown posi and one bald ET Street from it <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0"> so im going to start getting the car ready for fall with some new mods and a good tire. Gunning for an all time new cam only ET with more weight reduction <img src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" />

Re: ET Drag Vs. Hoosier Slick? Alot of people reccomend hoosiers. A local racer whos opinion i value said he couldnt tell a difference between hoosiers and m/t's but he did say the hoosiers wear out alot quicker.
Whats the weight of the hoosiers...the m/t you are looking at weigh in at 19 pounds per tire. I think this is also something you should consider.
I think the 8.5 is plenty of tire for you =)

Re: ET Drag Vs. Hoosier Slick? I'm no tire expert, but most of the slicks I see at the track are Hoosiers. I run a 26x9-15 and it hooks really well and is very stable. It's a bit different construction than the ET Drag, but offers less rolling resistance. The Hoosier will work fine on anything from a 8 to 8.5 inch rim.

Re: ET Drag Vs. Hoosier Slick? That 26/8.5/26 ET Drag matches well to the 26/10.5/15 ET Street and has a plus of,1 pound lighter per tire,25.9 vs.26.1 diametr[bit more gear off the line]and it's rated for an 8" rim.
The only minus is a smaller contact patch,8.1 vs 8.3,but the Drag has the L8 compound.
I screwed up and got a set of 26/10/15 ET Drags for my 8" Welds.I will sell those and go with the 8.5 ET Drag.I hope they hook as well as my ET Strets.
