Default Help analyze my first time at the track, please...

Here goes: Tonight I took my 98 TA M6 with a Pro 5.0 and Hooker catback, as the only mods, to the track. I ran on 275/40/17 Comp Ta tires, psi was not lowered at all. Only go to run one time.

Anyhow, I was nervous and it was first time at the track so I was kinda (read: absolutely) not performing very well as a driver. I spun a little at the top of first and part of second.
Here's my slip:
60'=2.59 (eww!)
1/8=9.66 mph=79.21
1/4=14.5 mph=100.31

Considering my atrocious 60' time, are these traps and e.t.'s consistant with other LS1's of comparable mods?? My trap seems too low, what do you think? Don't most stock/light modded LS1's run 103 mph traps? Are my less than impressive times due to my start?

I feel like a dumbass, but I'd like to be reassured that i'm the *** and not my car

Thanks for the help!!

I would say that your main big problem was your 60 ft. time.Try lauching at idle or a little higher and shift at 6k.What were you lauching at and what were you shifting at?Please let me know if you wouldn't mind sharing that kind of info.

I rolled out to of the hole (didn't hold any RPM on the launch) and shifted a little before 6000. Its difficult to tell what RPM exactly because my stock tach is 200 rpm off and I was so pumped that my mind was just on overload...Anywhere from 5500-5800 I would say.

Thanks for the quick response!

You can't take too much from one run, especially your first. You need runs to figure out your car and the track. Practice lightly, in a parking lot or isolated street. look at it this way, you can't do anything but get better

everyone with a M6 bascially sucks till they get the hang of it.. unless your a awesome driver and have everything down the first pass.. but most guys take weeks to learn how to master the M6, some months...

you have to nail the shifts and cut a good 60...

my gf's 98 a4 vert stang cuts 2.16 60's and runs 9.50 in the 1/8th and 14.8 up top, so i knowwwwwww you should be able to beat that pos stock car lol

u need to make 3-4 passes then you can judge how you did....

but stock you should be in the mid-upper 13's and 8.8-9.0 1/8th

i went 8.8 bone stock on the 1/8th with my 98 auto TA

With my M6 I would launch at no higher than 1800 rpms (any higher wheel spin, go lower than 1500 and you will bog), riding the clutch out like a cheap ****, I do not dump the clutch. This takes some practice, but on stock tires I could hit consistent 2.0 60ft. Also, with my car I would lose et. by power shifting, so I speed shift (remove my foot from the gas while shifting quickly). This can be different for different cars, I am not saying this will work for anyone else, just the way it worked for me. Depending on your car I would guess that with more practice you should be running with exhaust a 13.5 - 13.2 at around 105-107. This is of course a guesstimate.

Yes, you NEED more passes to more fully analize your driving capabilites. My very first pass ever in my car I ran a 14.5. 4 runs later I had gotten that down to a 13.5. Only mod was an air lid. So don't feel bad just yet, get a few more passes first.

Drag Racing is a blast, isn't it?

Thanks for the help fellas! I guess i'll have to practice much, much more, too bad we can't start from a roll

Zrevrun: thanks for the tips, i'll have to try holding RPM a little bit off the line.

BigSS: Thank god someone knows how it feels when you look down at the slip and see a 14.5! BTW, what was your 60' and trap speed on that pass???

Thanks
