Default Hal shock adjustment

Could setting them too loose in the front make the car hook worse? I've been having some problems getting the car to hook up with them on 1 in the front. Another strange thing is that I'm pulling the wheel off the ground with horrible 60's (like 1.8-1.9s). And that is with heavy C5 rims on the front That doesn't sound right to me either. Should I definately make them stiffer? And for the rear shocks I don't have Hals but I have adjustable KYBs. Should they be set soft or firm in the rear?

Phil, tighten them up.If the the track is hooking you go up,if it is a loose track go lighter.

I have gone.04 better 60' going from a 0 to 2 setting.

You are wasting power lifting the front wheels that could go to the rear tires.

On hals the lower the number = looser and the higher the number is the tighter right? or is it the other way around? I have mine installed but feel the front is a bit loose. Is it hard to do this? any one have any pics on where exactly I have to adjust them with the spanner wrench? thanks.

You adjust the **** at the bottom, the spanner wrench is for ride height. Off course if the car is lower the springs will have more preload with on them, which will change the characteristics of the car.

I adjust the Hal Shocks in increments of one. I usually start off with two in the front and 3 in the back. Sometimes I set the shock higher in the back on one setting higher on the passenger back side. Sometimes I let out pound of air or two on same side for the tire, trying to hook better. From the times you run, you should be advising me. Good luck.

I would have someone spot you if you are changing settings...

I'd start off at 2, and go tighter from there. I found one time that 2/2 was great, and 3/3 caused me to spin exactly 5 feet on the next two runs.

there was a Gm Hi- tech performance magazine early last year that had an article where a silver SS tested out the shocks at different settings. pretty good reference but I cannot seem to find it.

You can find the article (GM hitech performance) at BMR webpage. At least they used to have it on there, not sure if they still do.

I can't speak to the HALs. But, I have the KYB on the back. According to KYB tech support, the settings on thier shock go from OEM equivalent at 1 and then in 15% increments of stiffness after that.

I didn't see any radical improvement per se, when I installed the KYB. But, I did see an improvement in consistancy. Where my 60's would range from mid to high 1.7x to high 1.8x/low 1.9x, it's now pretty much 1.82 or lower. That's with a setting of 5 on the driver side and 7 on the passenger side.

Good Luck
