Having trouble hooking up at HRP

Having trouble hooking up at HRP I went to Houston Raceway Park (HRP) on Sunday and I couldn't hook up if my life depended on it. I ran a best of 13.73 @ 106. My crappy 60ft times ranged from a best of 2.34 to 2.56!!!!
My questions are:
What's a good RPM range to launch?
If I get some Nittos or BFG Drag Radials, how much should my time improve?
I was running on regular radials (not nittos or BFG radials). I heated them up pretty good and I was running them at 20psi. I tried launching at 2200 rpms, then I went down to 2K rmps and then finally went down to 1500 rpms which was my best run of the day. I already have some LCA's, PHR, and some SFC. What do you guys suggest for lowering the 60ft's? Tires?

Re: Having trouble hooking up at HRP im not an M6 guy so i have no clue about rpm...BUT, you NEVER need to pull radial pressure down that far. maybe to 26-28 MAYBE. that low and the radial construction will make the tire cup and you will lose major traction. no need for a big burnout either...radials get hard when they get hot. Nittos are your best bet on the street and the track

What you need are some slicks. Run them around 18 down to 15 psi. To save your rear end you need to launch at 2,000 rpms. I was cutting low 1.8's with this combo. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
BTW :I was launching the car the first time I blow up the rear end at 4,000 rpms M/T's 28x10.5x15 at 12psi and 4.10 gears it went BOOM <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" />
The second time I had a new Moser 12 bolt 4.56 gears same tire as above with 14 psi and launching at 4,000rpms and it went BOOM again.(broke the posi) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />

Re: Having trouble hooking up at HRP How are people cutting 1.5's 60ft times? I thought a 12 bolt was pretty much unbreakable. What I mean is, at what RPM's would someone need to launch, assuming they have some slicks, to cut some 1.48-1.50 60ft times?

1. You would need major weight reduction.

(10 bolt will not hold up to this)!
All the above is being done to my Hot Rod as we speak. I will post results as soon the Hot Rod is finished. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
12 bolts are good but M6's hit the drive line very hard so I had to put a spool in the Hot Rod. I hope this will fix the problem. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Re: Having trouble hooking up at HRP I don't have quite as much power as you, but I can hook fairly well on street radials out at HRP and I have 4.10 gears and a 5 spd (Mustang). I leave the pressure at 32 psi, do a VERY SMALL burnout...just enough to clean them off basically. I bring the RPM's up to ~3000 and slip the clutch out. Cut a best of 1.91 and had some other mid 1.9x's. Works every time as long as the track is prepped decent. If the track is not prepped decent, then its hopeless...it doesn't matter what you do with your street tires, you are not gonna cut any decent 60ft time unless you have a lot of power.

Re: Having trouble hooking up at HRP It must have been the track. My buddy, who has a 2002 Z06, ran a best of 12.9 @ 111 with a 2.2 60ft. He couldn't hook up either. I was launching at 2200 RPM's and that was WAY, WAY too much. I've got Nittos on the way to help me solve this problem. So you guys say to go higher on the PSI? That was probably my other problem; I was running the regular street tires at 20 psi <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" /> .
