Default I've gone maddddd!!!!!!

People I need help. I drive a '98 z28. For my own reasons I'd rather lighten my car than just increase the hp. I am willing to spend money, cutting the fat off this car. I need some suggestions about hard core weight reduction that doesn't change the way the car looks. How hard core, well take the colonel's list and consider that tame easy weight reduction, that is what I mean. For example, What Can I do to the frame, body, susspension, etc.?

Can a carbon fiber body look like the stock panels?
Is it possible to make a light weight frame?

What makes this car so damn fat??

This is a project street car, not my only car.

I want my car to weigh dry 25xx lbs, that is with full cage, most of the interior 100 lbs of other misc. stuff like subframes.

there is a weight reduction list somewhere in this forum. look it up in the search engine. other than that. look over the car with a fine tooth comb for stuff that is not needed.

This would be a good place to start, $3500 bucks and weighs 135 lbs (fiberglass).

Need a dash? 250 bucks, 4 lbs.

All chrome moly suspension pieces will save some weight as well. Check this thread for a pretty hardcore setup.

Get the front upper and lower control arms with the K Member thing and save about 40 pounds up front. I personal like to lighten the load on rotational weight such as wheels, carbon fiber driveshaft, Hal Shocks, etc. If you get real carried away, have your rear axles gun drill for more less weight. Personally, just find another car that has been gutted as a guide and sharpened the knife and get after it.

I don't think you'll get the car down to 2500lbs without making it a tube chassis car and getting rid of everything but the bare essentials. Not a very realistic goal, IMHO.

GeorgeC, all I'd like is to see 25xx lbs. 2599 is good enough so let's just say it's 2600. What does the colonel's car weight with the 422? I think it's possible.

If you take the engine, trans, and doors off, you'll be around 2500.

Cut a hole in the floor, and make like Fred Flintstone!

I think it'll be pretty tough to get down that far w/ a unibody car.

Is it really a bad idea to lighten the rear much?

As others have pointed out its a pointless goal. Just buy a cobra kit car and throw an LS1 setup in it.
