Default IRS setups.

Hi everyone,

I am a newbie from Melbourne Australia. I have a 1992 VP SS Commodore with a stroked 383 (from 304) cubed Holden motor (not LS1) with cast iron block and alloy heads making 500FwHp. It is conmtrolled with Delco EFI and is N/A. T-350 trans with 5200 converter. The chassis has Holden's version of the IRS with very weak CV joints. (Which have been ok so far for me)

I have run 11.2 @ 123mph (1.56sec 60') with a few problems (alternator not charging, fuel leak at pump fitting, bumper rubbing on drive tyre and wheelspin off the line). They have been fixed and i am waiting to get on a good track where i won't turn the tyres to run what should be around 10.8's (Moroso 'dream' wheel)

I have been trying to find some setup details of your IRS cars after reading that some of them are running 9's but i can find anything anywhere.

Any help on the following would be appreciated.
*CV joints you use in the IRS
*Spring and Shock rates
*Any other set-up information that you think might help.

I am running 29x9x15 Hoosiers on 15x8 Prostars with around 12psi. Car weight with me in it approx 3500Lb (Not confirmed)

Please either post replies here, or email them to me directly at DarrenP@hookplastics.com.au You can include pics and sketches if you do that!! I'll be able to reply to you with some pics of mine in return that way.

Cheers <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Darren

Surely the suspension set-ups over in the USA arent so secret that no one wants to offer some suggestions???

I am just curious to see what IRS suspension set-ups you guys use to run big numbers and if i would benefit from anything you guys have learnt??

Well the f-bods (majority of us here) don't have IRS, however the 'Vettes do. I think ARE is getting by with stock IRS on there low 9sec Vette.

Thanks Jsears8,

You guys are lucky not to have IRS in all your cars like we do in the Commodores out here. Be warned for when the Monaro arrives on your shores in the next year or two!!

It was ARE's car that i read about in another thread and was curious to find out more about about it's rear end set-up.

Thanks again!!

Darren
