Harlan

Thanks guy. I got mine today.

Did you have a chance - or any one else - find a tap in for the 98's? I would hate to try to do it manually, but I will <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> . Is there any way to hook it up to the clutch switch that must be pushed in to start the car?

This set up should be great for us M6'ers. No more looking at the tach, and than the lights and than the tach, etc. SET IT AND FORGET IT <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

One minor question on the NOS set up. From the relay - 87A and 30 right - where would the best place to tap in - would the arming switch work ? Any ideas?

Thanks again.

David

Terry, on a high stall converter you can set the RPM lower than the stall speed if you're after more flash on the launch.

David

The 87a and 30 pins are normally connected, and disconnect when the 2 step activates. Depending on how your nitrous system is setup, the best bet is to interrupt the power to the solenoids, or wire the relay in the loop w/ you FPSS and WOT switch.

it would go in the daisy chain of switches used to active the main relay to power the noids.

I'm still tracking down the connection. I originally tried the start switch on the clutch. One side goes to the body module, and the other to the starter relay. Not sure what the BCM is feeding the switch and when.

If only i could find my 98 manuals <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

I know i got them somwhere in the house, but...

Need to know if the clutch switch for the cruise control is available for tapping at any of the connectors on the passenger wheel well. There should be 3 or 4 connectors there that make the jump from the engine bay harness to the interior harness.

I'll keep digging though

will clutch pedal engagement point affect how the 2 step reacts off the clutch switch?

IMhO the clutch switch on the 98 isn't very dependable.

Mine stopped working @ ~30k miles. . . just got stuck I think.

I could start the car w/o depressing the clutch, and when I was driving w/ cruise control on, I'd push in the clutch and the RPM's would continue to go up like there was a load on the engine. . .

Now after a recent MC install, the damn switch is not functioning.
<img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Otherwise, that'd be a cool setup, but the guys w/ '98s should be careful w/ the switch.

How much is it for the 2 step?

There are 2 switches on the clutch, start switch at the bottom of the pedal travel, and cruise/pcm switch at the top.

Sounds like you're having issues with your pedal travel <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

engagement point has no real impact as long as the clutch has engaged by then time the switch closes. As soon as the clutch starts to grab, the motor sees some load. that will bring the RPM down, and cylinders will start to turn back on. You'll never go over set point till the switch closes. But if the motor is loaded, the RPM will drop below it any way

Info is on my page, link in the sig

OK

I think i got the easiest way for the 98 guys to tap the clutch switch.

<img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

There are a couple things about how it's wired though, that may be "interesting"

The cruise is deactivated by 3 things, the clutch, the brake, and ABS/TCS.

The way it's setup, ABS/TCS won't bother the 2 step. However, if you tap the switch you are also tapping the brake switch. So as a side effect, the brakes can be used as the trigger for the 2 step.

The easiest place to tap this circuit is at the ABS module, pin 26. It's a dark blue wire.

This is for the 98's only, and i have not yet verified it's operation. This is just info i dug outta the service manuals.

yeah,
I found this out last night after I left work, and made it a point to post in here. . .

the cruise switch on the clutch would be fine. . . just make sure to adjust it after a new MC install.

So Harlan,

Are you going to put up a little write-up on the website about how to do this with a '98 M6 car?

That would be helpful for some of the less technical among us <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Harlan

IT'S ALIVE

Got it hooked up tonight -- with the exception of the clutch release (I'll play with the switch until you can get the clutch hook-up figured out). Works great. If an totally mechanically idiot like myself can do it, any one can.

With me launch at 5500 - on a stock 10 bolt, 3.73's and 100 shot - it should be interesting on Saturday <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> .

Thanks again. You the man <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Please help us 98'ers with the clutch release.

David

<img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" />

Saturday for sure

Once you have the 98s figured out I'll order one. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Or hook me up with one for cost and I'll test it out. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Harlan you out there?? (or any one else that has figure this relay out)

Help!! -- I sent you an E-mail, but no idea if you got it.

I did 'play' with the 2-step at the track on Saturday -- tried to use a toggle switch until we can figure out the clutch switch for the 98's.

I did get a new best 1.622 - not bad for a 4700 rpm launch - usually do it about 5500. On a shitty track. Spun the first 20 feet.

Any way. I need a wire diagram for the NOS by-pass relay. The actual 85 to >>> etc.

I have tried everything. Nothing. Once I get it hooked up I get no power to the WOT switch.

I have it hooked up:
Yellow from the 2-step to 86
From NOS activation switch (inside the car) positive to 85
From 30 to a ground
From 87a to the WOT switch (middle positive connection)

Is this correct?

I am not very good at electrical stuff

HELP! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Justin

I'm gonna install one on NoOne's car this weekend i hope. Planning to put my motor back in this weekend <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

We'll have it figured out. It works on the 98 as is, but the clutch connection isn't as simple.

Todd, got the order. plan to ship in the morning <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
